Landmarks:
Fairmont Hotel
This elegant hotel at the intersection of California and Powell was one of the first structures rebuilt after the 1906 quake and fires. Famous for its smart dining rooms, intimate bar and marbled lobby, it is the first choice for visiting dignitaries and celebrities.
Grace Cathedral
The main Episcopalian sanctuary in San Francisco, this gothic-style cathedral was built over a period of thirty years, ending in 1964. Its architecture is clearly inspired by Notre Dame in Paris, and it stands on the site of Charles Crocker's vanished mansion.
Mitchell Brothers O'Farrell Theater
Opened in 1969 this infamous porn house has been described by former manager Hunter S. Thompson as "the Carnegie Hall of public sex in America". It originally offered live sex shows on stage until those were shut down.
The Pacific-Union Club
Now an exclusive men's club, this was once the mansion of Comstock millionaire James Flood.
Russian Hill
A portion of Russian Hill is within the Nob Hill area. Named by Gold-Rush settlers for the small Russian cemetery discovered on the top of the hill. Despite the move of the cemetery and the Russian communities residence in Richmond the Hill retains it's name.
