Who is the Human Resource Center?

An up-and-coming independent (so far) rock act in Anchorage, the Human Resource Center were noteable for their musical talent, willingness to experiment with new methods of musical production, and lack of any sort of shame. They were (sporadically) fighting against what seem insurmountable odds to produce an extended set of original material, until the band folded; in the meantime they were a main stable[neigh!] of the UAA [University of Alaska Anchorage]residence hall open mic nights. But don't take our own boasting on face value--decide for yourself.

NEWS

3.29.07 - For those of you wondering what we're up to, we're up to stuff. Here's evidence of this, some new material we're working on. For those of you getting tired of teasers, you think we aren't? Don't you think we wish we could just show you the songs? You don't appreciate them enough is the problem. If you liked them more, maybe we'd record more! Raaah!

And here, for the first time, the Human Resource Center made a guest appearance another guitarist's track. He shall be known as Everett, for that is his name.

So anyways. In news. Missy is moving to Seattle effective April 20th 2007. Mary is returning to Sitka and then we'll see how well a long distance band works, huh. Five string bass in the works, 12 finished new songs, another video before the 20th, and then once things cool down a bit, the rest of the Hot Mother videos will be out and about. Enjoy.

2.4.07 - Work is being done! Substantial work, gooey work, video work, so you'll all have more to see, and not just listen! Will be lots of songs in this, lots of juicy stuff, behind the scenes, it's gonna be big. Oh who knows, two, three parts? New songs, old songs, improved songs, noise, weirdness, lights, camera, action. It'll be a regular circus for the senses, so it will. And a surprise, something to make you actually want to keep checking the site, as if you shouldn't already.
-Missy

1.19.07 - Hark! After a long hiatus, the HRC finally has more to show! We've decided getting our parts recorded is more important than pretending like we have a guitar player, so the site now contains two new original song demos. We're also not pretending to have a vocalist yet, until one of us gets around to the vocals. So go listen to the new songs, faithful viewer.

1.6.07 - Happy New Yeaaar.
Mary has returned to the town of Anchorage, bringing with a fairly decent mixer and a vocal mic. That helps in spades for the whole recording process, especially once we figure out how the fuck to use it.
In other news, tomorrow [7th] Mary and Missy will be hawking their talents to a relatively well established group, if you can call two guitarists a group. However, they are reported to have an extensive set list, financial backing, a place to play, and aspirations. Mmmmm, aspirations. However, as Missy writes this, she is unsure as to whether or not they have to bring their own equipment. Which will not be a huge deal, except for poor Mary. Our fingers shall stay crossed.
Keep tuned to this website, there'll hopefully be massive updates as Missy and Mary dive into recording. For now, here's some pics.

12.22.06 - You may think it's odd that the show on the 14th wasn't mentioned in the previous post, or for ages after it happened. Well, that's because it didn't happen. Mary was informed in so many words that we were to play at 11.10pm on the 14th. So we showed up at 10.45, carried everything in and weren't even in sight of the commons where we play when one of the sound guys came out of the commons and told us they had taken everything down. So rather than throw a giant screaming fit, which everyone felt like doing, we turned a quick 180 and just walked out. It was made easier by the fact that we hadn't told anyone about the show, Missy had predicted exactly this happening, and nobody gave a shit about it. So nuts to that. Let the record show, as we pulled out of UAA after unloading and getting turned down and then reloading, it was 10.50pm on the 14th.
Why were we scheduled for LAST?
Because, as the organizers put it, "We thought you like going last."
Fuck UAA. IN THE EAR.
Now, the band is snoozing, and it's rather nice...Mary is in the hometown of Sitka while Missy whiles away the time until the holidays have passed. In other news, Missy is the proud recipient of a new red bass, with pictures to follow, eventually. The site is in the process of having its storage moved offsite so this one isn't so close to over its disk space, soooo that'll be all kinds of whee skippy fun, blah. As life gets more boring, presumably I'll be tweaking with the site. Funny how site tweakings normally happen when there's nothing else to do...
-Missy

11.29.06 - The band has died. I don't even know why I'm putting this up. Nobody checks this site, nobody cares about this band, and most of all, nobody wants to listen to this bullshit.
Here's a test. Email me. Right now. theace_enterprises at hotmail.com. If you're reading this, email me and tell me. Otherwise, I'll know this site was for nothing. If you are in fact reading this, thank you. If you're not, fuck you.

11.28.06 - Having still heard nothing about the bass, the HRC is still out of action. Having still heard nothing from Queen Amanda, the HRC is still out of action. Having had her living arrangements brutally yanked out from under her, Mary is acting pissy[understandably] so smother her with compassion or she'll shit all over you[not]. All in all, it's life as pretty much normal for the HRC, everything to our disadvantage, which is the way we like it. Not really. But it's what we're used to.
That was a lot of bitching and moaning, that was. Well...sorry. :)

11.24.06 - Firstly. Happy turkeys.
Now then. Missy is officially 21, which went over nicely, with much rejoicing, as is the custom. There will be a writeup of the preceding show later.
However, life was getting too easy. Fate thus decided to sicken Queen Amanda with the coughing colds, Missy's bass went "DAAaaaa..." and died. Along with her computer. So. Goddammit. Human Resource Center is out of action for 9-12 days. Those of you annoyed by how long it takes for Mammoth Music to get around to looking at a god damn instrument can make your voices heard...in your showers, I guess. Not like anybody's listening. Right, God?

11.15.06 - Upon this 15th day of November, two days shy of Missy's 21st birthday, one day prior to our first/second show, we offer up a video, for your perusal. A bit bastardized, yes, but YouTube only accepts contributions less than 100mb and the full version of our video was a whopping 104. Curses. So a little less cool, but all the same, here is Before the Masses.

11.11.06 - We have a song. Look up just a little bit and you'll see it. Also, once a cable is gotten, there will be videos, and stuff.

11.11.06 - For those of you painfully addicted to Myspace, here's that for those who are afflicted as I say. Yeah. Gonna stop talking now. Just click here and I'll shut up.

11.9.06 - Show, 7.30pm November 16th, UAA Commons. For a map, click here. Your target is #22 on the map, sorry it's so small.
Hopefully, this show will actually happen and not get all cocked up. Will have video of that when the time rolls around, until then you'll have to content yourselves by waiting until the HRC studio footage is up and running. Keep checking back, will have pictures and vids eventually, we promise. Until then, be happy with this.
A brief bass line

10.29.06 - For all those who are interested, here is the official explanation for what occurred on the evening of Friday October 27th 2006 in the University of Alaska commons.
At around 9:45 we arrived, with costumes, camera and backup instruments (Missy forgot mary's glasses and boots, but as you know that's neither here nor there). When we arrived, however, we were told that we would not be allowed to play.
It seems that whenever a musical act is playing, a campus police officer must be present. Yes, even if the band consists of MoTownJetty, an attendent cloud of marijuana smoke, and six hippies who stopped by to use the bathroom. Apparently musicians are JUST THAT SCARY. (also there needs to be a UAA staff member present and the only one who wasn't sleeping wanted nothing more than to be sleeping but I'm letting her off the hook this time because her staying or not wouldn't make a difference and that was most likely what influenced her decision to leave. Though she certainly wasn't very helpful, or even interested in explaining the rule in full.)
Due to disgustingly typical UAA incompitance, the person organizing the event was unaware of this rule, and the person who was aware of this rule signed the cop up until 10:00, which made it impossible for us to play; so the person organizing the event would be able to tell the person who signed the cop up at any point as much as 9 days before the event, , had the person who signed the cop up actually informed the person organizing the event (A) that the rule existed more than 24 hours before the event and (B) that the cop was signed up for 3 hours when 4 was required.
For those interested, the reason why the Human Resource Center had to play at 9:45 was due to a time conflict with Mary from 6:30 to 9:30. As of tonight, that time conflict will no longer exist.
It's easy to understand how the person organizing the event could have forgotten about such a silly unimportant rule, since the person organizing the event is merely the student body President; such things clearly fall outside of her responsibility. Similarly, it's apparently too much to ask of the person organizing the event that she actually be present at the event she was organizing in case, for example, something were to go catastrophically wrong. She had more important things to do, such as stare unconsciously up at the ceiling. Also there's some stuff about her assigning someone else to do it and her having left before we got there leaving a mid-level flunky type person in "charge" but frankly I'm too sick of the whole thing to care.
There will be more shows; there will be more time to rehearse. Life continues.
But we probably won't be very good conversation for at least a few days.

10.24.06 - The page is born.
NOTABLE NEWS: Show, 9.30pm Friday Oct. 27th at the UAA Commons. There will be much rejoicing.
