Anime Status: Was a 52-episode long TV series, and 3 OVAs at 3 and 6 and 4 episodes each. The TV series was based off of volumes 1-13 of the manga, the first OVA was an original story, the second OVA was based off of volumes 14-18 of the manga, and the third OVA was based off of the 7th and 8th novels. It was also turned into 11 novels

Synopsis:

Two best friends, Miaka and Yui find a mysterious book at the library called "Shi Jin Ten Chi Sho". They start to read it when suddenly they’re sucked into it and find themselves in a world similar to ancient China. Each girl becomes a priestess of an animal god and the girls have to collect 7 seishi (sort of warriors) each to summon their gods. A lot of complications occur (the two girls become enemies, one girl falls for one of her seishi, etc…) It’s a sort of adventure story, too…..well, blah. There are LOTS of other pages devoted to this series, so I would check those for a more eloquent explanation if I were you ^_-
