Synopsis:

This is a story about Mermaids who come from the moon and other planets and go to Earth for spawning season… sounds weird already? ^^;

Anyway, a merman named Shona has multiple dreams about a beautiful mermaid with long, flowing honey-colored hair. He decides he must go back to Earth for spawning season to find her. So, leaving behind his alien lover, he makes the long swim to Earth.

Meanwhile, a little boy is nearly run over by Art, a "gypsy" dancer in New York. The shock causes the boy to lose his memory, so Art names him "Jimmy", and lets him move in.

…Do these stories sound connected in any way? Of course they are! It's Shoujo Manga! Hahaha.

Yes, indeed. "Jimmy" is actually a young, asexual mermaid named "Benjamin". His two triplet asexual siblings, "Tylt" and "Setsu", are the offspring of "Seira", the mermaid from the Anderson fairy tale about the mermaid who fell in love with a man and made a deal with the Sea Witch to be with him.

The triplets are asexual as children, but one of them is supposed to turn into a female mermaid and have children with the descendent of the merman who was in love with Seira. The remaining two triplets will remain asexual (sterile), and concentrate on protecting the one who became female.

Once Shona makes it to New York, he comes across a society of mermaids and mermen who have gathered to spawn. He strikes up a relationship with one mermaid, ready to give up on his dreams of the beautiful mermaid with long honey-colored hair, but Glen Ma, the head of the group, warns Shona that he must mate with Seira's child instead. Yes, Shona is the child of the merman who was in love with Seira. According to legend and premonitions (and other trustworthy sources like that ^_^;), if Shona fails to mate with Seira's offspring, the Earth will die, and merfolk will no longer have a place to spawn. Everyone will die.

To complicate matters further, it is not gentle Setsu or strong Tylt, but immature, sickly Benjamin (Jimmy) who starts to turn into a female mermaid. At first, Jimmy fluctuates back and forth between being a little "boy" and a grown "woman", but very soon, his (?) metamorphosis will be complete… Shona finds Jimmy in her female form and falls in love with Jimmy. This would be nice and simple and all, but there's one slight problem… Just as with her mother, Jimmy has already fallen in love with a human, Art.

Tylt, enraged at this, decides that Benjamin/Jimmy must die so that Setsu can become the female mermaid instead. He would do anything to have his beloved Setsu be happy; even make a deal with the Sea Witch…

Phew, that was a long synopsis… ^^; Well, it's a pretty complicated story, so hmph. The artwork is nice, the story is unique, and the characters are all very interesting. It was also quite engrossing. I read the last 8 or so volumes in 2 days O_o
