This show actually started with a band and I have no clue who they were. They never said their name, they just kind of had some guy dancing with them. Oh well. They were pretty awful.
Lazy Way Out played next, and Puzzo assured me that they were pretty good. They were pretty bad. Sitting through their set of horrid pop punk mixed with extra suckiness made me wonder why I go to shows to begin with. It made me hate everything about music. I wanted to smash their guitars and tell them to get real jobs, but then I would also become everything I hate.
My Hopes Dashed played next and no one really seemed to care about that either. They're from Waterbury and claim to have been together for three or four months. Which is promising because that means they'll have a ton of time to get over that whole "sounding like Hot Water Music" thing. I mean, they were tight and had a good sound... It just sounded like Hot Water Music... A LOT. Had they actually constructed their own sound, they could have been a lot better. I think they need to listen to more Rescue to see how it's done, but not actually become the band. In either case, they had promise and won't be a bad band a year or so from now if they stop ripping off other bands directly. Plus they have the look down.
Moneen played next and they're some crazy Canadians who plain out rock. If you've never seen these guys, do yourself the favor and check them out live. They're crazy and they don't stop moving... ever. I think the guy doing sound- who looked to be someone's dad- was real freaked out. Aside from Kenny and Chris going back and forth with guitar licks and seeing who could play crazier, Kenny decided to go on the rail over the steps, which is a long drop, and jumped back into the band rather than fall to a broken leg or neck. Good choice. It was insane, and like I said, you have to see these guys live to understand.
Greg Wood headlined. He played songs like "Landmine" and "Unsafe" from his Wishlist EP, and even a Propagandhi and Jeff Buckley cover (not at the same time).
Fun was had by all.
