Finally... Lucas the Geek has returned to the N-C-A.
OK, I'm not going to bask in my return for this whole column, so let's get it going. There's actually a lot of ground to cover since I have been on hiatus for so long.
Let us start with the "real" shows though. The "reality" television if you will. I find it rather amusing that some people saw the incidents that happened on September 11 and took it as a translation that people didn't like reality tv any more. There was this idea that people wanted to escape from reality, and because of that (which was largely influenced by the terrorism, as many will tell you) such come back reality shows as Survivor have suffered.
Can we state for the record right now that Survivor always has and always will suck? Did these so-called "geniuses" ever stop to think that maybe these so-called "reality" shows are so fucking fake that no one wants to waste their time watching them? If anything, let's credit the Sept. 11 attacks with the world being able to say that life is short and precious, so we're not going to sit around wasting it watching this shit.

Now we get into the new shows. So many new shows, so little time. If you want to cut through the shit and get straight to the meat of things, the only new shows that are really worth checking out are Scrubs and Undeclared. Scrubs is what I would imagine ER to be like if it were funny and didn't flat out suck. So if you want that comedy-drama without all the drama and hour long bullshit of ER, check Scrubs. And then we have Undeclared which is from the same people who brought us the too-shortly lived series Freaks and Geeks. This show also has Seth Rogen (Ken on Freaks and Geeks), and what better way to top off their first couple of episodes than to have special guest star Adam Sandler on?

Yes, there are a lot of new shows out there but the fact is that most of them simply SUCK.
Many of the returning shows have also gone downhill. With the exception of That 70's Show, the Simpsons, Family Guy and Malcolm in the Middle, there are few shows returning worth watching again.
But just how do the Simpsons stay so consistent? They're one of the longest running shows out there right now, and at the same time, still one of the best. Congrats to them, and this looks like to be a FOX sort of season for tv.
Next month, I will examine the Simpsons as well as other cartoons and discover just why cartoons kick the ass of shows with actual people.
As always, continue to flip during the commercials.
