It's kind of hard to put Dag Nasty in a catagory unless you've heard them before. They're a punk band, sure, but they transcend those sections of punk most people think of, which include bands like Rancid, NOFX, Blink 182 and so on. They aren't quite the California brand of punk most people think of, which is usually something alone the lines of a band on Fat Wreck Chords, Epitaph or Nitro. But then they aren't that poppier kind of music that's passing for punk these days like the aforementioned Blink 182. And they're not the old school style of punk ala the Ramones or Sex Pistols.
So just where do they fit in?
You know... I'm not sure. I try to think of them as having some classifcation, but they're one of the cases where they sound a little bit like everything yet on a whole like nothing. I guess if I had to liken them to one other band I'd draw the comparison to Face to Face, but even then I still maybe slightly off.
"Minority of One" kicks off with a song called "Ghosts" which is actually a good way to start the cd. It has that in your face fast paced attitude that sets the pace for the remaining songs. "Throwing Darts" stands out as a good song to me, as it opens with the lines: "So sorry you think I'm not the best. I didn't know I had to pass your fucking test".
This is actually one of the better cds along these lines right now because it just really seems to stand for what it is, no bullshit.
