Imagine the most violent CD you have ever heard. Capture the sound of that violence conveyed into music into your mind for just a second. Now magnify it by a thousand. You're almost close to what Curl Up and Die do.
This is hands down the most violent CD I have heard in a very long time. The vocals are not easily understood, the guitars, bass and drums, well, you can feel them cutting through you and kicking your ass note for note. This CD just wears me down and makes me tired because I feel like I'm in a boxing match when I'm listening to it. By the time you hit the end, it feels like the fifteenth round and you've lost all feeling in the left side of your body.
There are also clever song titles. "On the Run From Johnny Law Ain't No Trip to Cleveland" pulls a line from the virtually unknown film "Bottlerocket". Other titles such as "You'd Be Cuter If I Shot You in the Face", "Your Idea of Fascism and Global Intervention Makes Me Puke" and "Make Like a Computer and Get With the Program" are genuine.
As I've followed Curl Up and Die- before their days of signing to Revelation, back when they were on Status Inc. doing "The Only Good Bug is a Dead Bug"- I couldn't help but feel excited when I heard they were signing with Revelation. I knew this was going to open up a whole new world of mass destruction for them. I knew, if portrayed right, this could be the CD that defines violent music for years to come. And let me just say, this was perfectly orchestrated. This CD will redefine music as we know it for years to come. This is a very impressive debut on Revelation for Curl Up and Die.
If you're familiar with Curl Up and Die already, this CD will not disappoint you, it will only leave you begging for more. If you have yet to experience the band, this is your chance. And, oh yeah, be sure to crank this one up as loud as it goes because you can't listen to it any other way.
