The Capricorns are an even mixture of vocals and keyboards. It's actually kind of funny because they don't have an indie rock vibe to them at all, one that so many bands tend to be trying to take part in these days. When you see girls in bands these days, you expect them to sound a certain way and that's not how the Capricorns sound at all.
When I first listened to this CD I knew that it was good. Something about it grabbed me and made me want to listen to it again. The easiest way to pinpoint a sound for the Capricorns is by calling them a throwback to an '80s synth band, and you know what I'm talking about. They have that kind of vibe of New Order (who did a song "Blue Monday", later covered by the glam rockers Orgy), only their music is a little bit more sped up and there are more lyrics. They spit out words and they spit them out fast.
Now there's another interesting comparison I would like to make.
The second song on this CD is called "Nintendo Song" and it makes me think that, yes, in some respects the music does have this sort of vibe of the background to say, Super Mario Bros. But then I got to thinking about what else I listened to sounds like that and the first band that comes to mind is the Locust. Yes, I have made my voice pretty clear about how awful the Locust is and that they have this video game soundtrack vibe only sped up way too fast and with uncomprehensible lyrics. But this is not a Locust review so let me make my point.
If the Locust sounded more like a male version of the Capricorns, maybe the Locust wouldn't suck so much. I think that what the Locust is trying to do (or should be if they don't want to suck) the Capricorns take the time to perfect to a tee.
Songs like "The New Sound", "Geeky Pop Song", "The Longest Drive", "Nathan II" and "Pretty Girls" make this especially enjoyable for me.
Pick it up and pick it up now. There's nothing out there like it (to my knowledge at least) and it's about time you got some fiber back in your diet.
