If you've never heard the Cancer Conspiracy before, they are a three piece instrumental band. What's that you say? Yes, that means they have no vocals.
I've never heard a straight up instrumental band before, only scattered songs on CDs with bands that do have vocalists. So this whole idea seemed kind of strange to me. After seeing them live, I wanted to know what it would be like on CD. Would this be a huge problem for them? Would this CD sound like elevator music or something to that effect? Ultimately, would this CD suffer at all because there is no vocalist?
And the answer to all of those is no. Not at all. After listening to this CD a number of times, I've realized that what many may see as a burden could be actually be a blessing for the Cancer Conspiracy. While many other bands have whiny vocalists who tend to sing the same old boring words again and again, the Cancer Conspiracy has kind of eliminated that element of being able to compare them to too many other bands based on their singer's voice (for they have no singer) and lyrical content (for there are no lyrics).
I honestly believe that these guys do more with their music without vocals than a lot of bands do with vocals. Perhaps it is time for some of these heart broken losers to simply shut up.
What can I say about this CD though that it doesn't already? Just pick it up, listen to it, and let it speak for itself.
