Buried Alive... BURIED ALIVE... What do I really need to say about
Buried Alive that hasn't already been said before? What can I really say
about Buried Alive that will help them sell CDs? Who is actually going to
read this review- if I give it a bad one- and say "Oh, I'm not going to go
buy the new Buried Alive then"?? And could I actually say to get people to
go this Buried Alive CD?? You either know who Buried Alive is, or you don't.
If you don't know who Buried Alive is- if you've never heard them- well, you
obviously don't like hardcore and you should just go waste your money on the
new Weezer. But if you know who Buried Alive is, obviously you like them
and obviously you will buy this new CD NO MATTER WHAT I SAY.
So let's have some fun with this one.
On "Last Rites", Buried Alive come hittin' at you with only the violent
induced barrage of noise that only they can deliver. There are nine new
songs that hit me so hard I want to beat my girlfriend. Ok, well, maybe I
wouldn't go that far. But it does kind of make me want to kick someone's
ass. And aside from these nine new songs, we also have five live tracks
including "Kill Their Past" and "Watching You Die". Yeah! The quality is so
good too, it's right in between where you can tell it's live, but it's still
clear and very well recorded.
Now let me go off for a minute on hardcore and the live effect. Yeah,
you can hear a hardcore band on CD or tape- whatever you listen to- and
that's just fine. But a big part of hardcore is actually getting to a show
and seeing these bands play live. It's a release (Victory made a movie about
it), and for me, it's just a way of life. I personally don't give a fuck
what I do Monday through Friday, and no matter how stressful and how much it
makes me want to pull out my hair and shoot people, as long as I'm at that
show come Friday or Saturday, it's all good. I can survive. It's
comforting to know that people can share the same gripes as you, and rather
than go around bitching and crying like a little girl, I listen to loud
guitars, booming bass lines, and I sing along with guys screaming while I
wave my fist. It's my way of making it through life, so yes, I think a
vital part of hardcore- and any music for that matter- is seeing the band
live.
With "Last Rites", for five glorious songs, you can experience that as
fully as you can without actually going to a show. Beat that.
