bird gets the smile. "You never knew Whitey glew?"

How in the hell do I describe this? Ok, I want to say it's indie rock, but it's not, and if I use that label, people may associate it with emo. It's something that's not quite punk enough to be punk, but they could still play a punk show. And they have parts that are hardcore enough to fit into a hardcore show with the best of them, but they're not hardcore.
I guess I kind of look at bird gets the smile. as my favorite "one hit wonder" band that was actually really good. You know, the bands that get that one song on the radio and are forever known for it (or forgotten), but you picked up their CD and found the rest of it to be enjoyable. Sure, there have been a ton of bands that you've heard that one song on the radio, bought the CD, and then rest of the CD sucked, but there have also been the winners. Bands like Superdrag and Nada Surf. I love those bands, and they're like a guilty pleasure to me. Every time I mention Nada Surf to someone, they're like, "Oh, that "Popular" band", and I have to tell them that they had other songs too. Well, to me, bird gets the smile is that kind of band that could get onto the mainstream radio with one really successful "hit", and then be cast aside, but still be embraced by a cult of listeners. They're the type of band that just needs to get their music out there, and then they will be huge. Once people hear them, they will be trapped and forced to declare them their new favorite band!
Everyone has their guilty pleasures, no matter what "scene" you're into... Well, now, you don't have to feel guilty any more.
