A Voice of Reason "Destination Demo 2000"

This CD is three songs, because it is a demo. There are more complete A Voice of Reason CDs out there, however, and listening to this is basically a matter of whether or not they are worth buying. I like the fact that this is only three songs, because it gives you a good idea of what the band sounds like, and plus I can pick each song apart individually.
The first song is "Street Signs and Lamppost". This song starts off with a strong bass line and quickly turns into a punk/hardcore anthem about love and loss. The chorus hits you hard with full backing vocals, and is very easily a singalong song and destined to be a crowd favorite at shows. Lyrical content is great, because most anyone can relate to it, and it deals also with something that we all know and hate- time, with the chorus line "And these days, they seem to fade to years". The song goes into a nice musical breakdown and then is ended with a slew of "Whoa-oa-oa"s. This song is not too short, and not too long. It's very easy on the ears, and I must admit I enjoyed listening to it.
The second song- "Lies as Tall as Skyscrapers"- starts with power guitar chords and kicks in ala Face to Face or any great punk rock band. This is another song about loss and how time brings change. You can never have too many of these though, because honestly, it's just one of those parts of life you can't avoid so you hate it. As fast and hard as this song starts off, it keeps the pace throughout the whole song, which is good. It's clearly a punk song that anyone who listens to it will enjoy. "I wanted her to be happy and look at what it's done to me"
The third song is "Like Static to the Heart" and this is a slow, almost 80's sounding song. I must say I was feeling it though. I think it shows that they have a wide range of musical abilities, and oh, look at that- it's a band that has some actual musical talent. That's always a good thing. So, all in all, I will conclude simply that you should go to www.trescrown.com and buy A Voice of Reason CD.
