12 Cent "Fat Drunk and Stupid" (S15 Records)

With the way labels are being thrown around these days, it's hard to tell what exactly different music is, or how it should be described. All too often we lose sight of just what certain music sounds like, as the door is open to different typics of music under the same preference. Basically, too many bands are being labeled- or are labeling themselves- as something that they are not. Some where in this sea of music, bands who are hardcore (but just a little bit too wussy to hang with the real hardcore bands) or bands who are punk (but breach a bit towards hardcore) label themself as hardcore punk. This label has been tossed around far too much, but let me just say, to use a CD as a point of reference as to what exactly hardcore punk is, look no further than this six song EP from 12 Cent.
Their sound is fast, and well, hardcore punk. Think H2O, if you need a band of comparison. I enjoy the fact that they actually have a really tight sound too, something that is vital to being a hardcore punk band.
Through these songs, such as "Slampig" and "I Have a Stunt Double", perhaps the best part is the song "Burnin In the Barrel" which on a whole makes fun of the movie "Willie Wonka and the Chocolate Factory". Like the move or not, this song will impress you. With lines like "Everlasting gobstopper/Veruca Salt, I popped her", how can it not? Like I said, this is six songs that will just blow you away. You will be left screaming (much like me), GIVE ME SOME MORE 12 CENT!
