PROBLEM and Cause
SOLUTION

*Relax corners of the mouth, pucker
corners of the lips forward, push lower lip
forward, use more teardrop control and
less control from the corners of the lip

*Bring jaw back or blow softer
*Relax tension in lip or raise "teardrop" slightly

*Roll flute in, lower head, or bring jaw back
*Bring jaw back or open mouth slightly

FLAT PITCH

*Jaw too far back *Bring jaw forward, blow harder, or lower the teardrop
*Blowing too softly *Blow harder
*Too small an embouchure *Teeth closer together, jaw forward, or blow harder

SHARP PITCH
*Blowing too hard *Blow softer but not so much that the airspeed produces a bad sound
*Jaw too far forward *Bring jaw back
*Too large an embouchure *Open the teeth or raise teardrop
VIBRATO LIKE AN UZI
*Too much tension in the throat *Relax the throat. Think of your windpipe as a wide tube with
constantly steady air. Concentrate on supporting the diaphragm.
PAINFULLY SLOW VIBRATO

SOUND LACKING INTENSITY, HAVING
TOO MUCH INTENSITY, OR THAT GETS
SOFTER BETWEEN NOTES

muscles to keep up the breath support. Keep your airway open
and keep the air going at the same speed no matter what dynamic
you're playing.
BREATHY OR AIRY TONE
*Too much upper lip tension
