NINE DAYS @ BIRCH HILL

Nine Days
The Gabe Dixon Band
The Milwaukees
@ Birch Hill

Another fun night at the Birch hill, the best club in NJ for great shows. Tonight Nine Days would be performing again with Gabe dixon band and The milwaukees. I got to the venue at 7 'o clock because for the first show out of the thirty-some that I have seen at Birch Hill this one had seemed to start at 8...not that that's important. Anyways, I stood in line and got up front right when the doors opened, because not many people were there in the beginning. I couldn't wait to hear The Milwaukees, a band I saw about a year or so ago, and really liked. The band played some new songs and old songs, consisting of... Cosmonaut, Drink soviet champagne, Missile command and others. Their set was short but very good. The band is very talented, and reminiscent of Shades Apart . Next up was The Gabe Dixon band... I had never seen these boys before, but had heard them. I can't explain the type of music they play, because hell even they dont know! Its very eclectic... reminds you of Dave Matthews doing the blues... somewhat even of Ben Folds Five . The band consisted of a pianist/singer, a bassist, a drummer, and a saxaphonist. Since I haven't heard much of their music, I can't tell you what they sang, but I can tell you they didnt sing my song, "Corner Cafe." =0( Still, they played very good music, I'd like to see them again. Next up was Nine Days...finally, after waiting for sooo long to see them again, they came out on stage. They opened up in a very rock-starish way, with the drummer doing his own solo, and then the banding popping out their first song, "Revolve." It's an awesome upbeat rock song. Their set consisted of :"Revolve," "Back to me," "End up Alone," "If I Am," "Bob Dylan," "257 weeks," "Bitter," a new song which on the set list just says "Beautiful," then an amazing cover of "Video Killed the Radio Star," "Absolutely," "Story of a Girl" with some lyrics from U2 "Bloody Sunday" and lyrics from "Sweet home Alabama" by Lynryd Skynyrd sneaked in. Next was "So Far Away," "Wannabe," and they topped it off with a song i don't know...on the set list it says "Watch," but i'm sure its not the full name because everything on the set list was abbreviated. Well that was their set, which was quite energetic with their keyboardist almost knocking over his keys every other second. I love how they perform but, alas, I hated the crowd. The singer kept coming next to me and all these girls pounced on him to touch him... c'mon people, I can touch you is it gonna make a difference? NO, so why must you touch John, are you gonna not wash your hands and chop it off and put it in a box because John Hampson touched it?! Yeah so with that said, once the set was over we headed out to meet the band..and get pictures. First out was John(one of the lead singers). He was a really nice guy, even while being hounded by girls (which made it nice to see that he wasnt being an ass. Next we met the guitar player/singer Bryan, also a very nice guy but not too talkative. Then we met the keyboardist who didnt mention his name, still out of all the band members I liked him the most. He was a very down to earth guy, and stuck around to talk for a bit, which I really enjoyed. Over all, this band hasn't let stardom affect them (yet). Next we went downstairs to buy Milwaukees stuff. Then we jetted right outta there and back upstairs where we met the Gabe Dixon band. I felt dumb talking to them, since I didnt have much to say but I think our compliments made them feel better since nine days had been the ones getting all the attention. The saxophonist, Chandler, was really nice and it would be worth seeing them again some day. Overall it was a great night, if you get a chance check out any of these bands.
