Mario
Nintendo's super plumber is perhaps the most well known video game character of all time. The original Super Mario Bros. on the NES created the concept known today as the platformer. Strategy: Mario is a solid, if a bit average, fighter. Use a combination of melee and projectiles, depending on your opponents strategy. Battle-plan: Being so average, Mario does not excel in either close-combat or missile fire. Also, most of his moves are on the slow side, making it easy to counter or avoid. Combos: Similar Fighters: Luigi, Ken/Ryu Family Stats: Power*: 6 Energy: 5 Defense: 4 Speed: 6 Ratio: 2 Special Moves: Fireball*: Mario throws one of those bouncy fireballs he's so known for. (A,downward)(F) Flying Punch*: Mario jumps upward with his fist leading the way. Upper Cut. (A) Spin Fist*: Mario spins around with his arms in the air towards the enemy. (A) Smash Hit: Mario performs a huge wind up punch. Cyclone Throw: Mario grabs the enemy, spins around, and toss them into the bright blue yonder. Basic Throw: Bowls the enemy into the wall like a turtle shell Bonus Ability: Wall Jump Launcher: A basic uppercut Hyper Attacks: Mega Flare*: Mario quickly launchs 16 fireballs (F) Italian Tornado: Mario spins really fast and creates a small tornado. Like Jin's Max cyclone attack. (B) Brotherly Love: Mario charges forward (C) and Mario and Luigi pummel the guy together Enter: A green pipe comes out of the ground and Mario rises out of it. Taunt: Mario flashs and grows a raccoon tail and ears. Victory: Mario grows to twice his normal size. Top |
Yoshi
Yoshi made his first appearence in Super Mario World on the SNES. Since then, he has been seen on Mario 64, Smash Brothers, and even has his own series, Yoshi's Island 1 and 2. This green dino has a huge tongue that can grab things to eat from quite a distance. Strategy: Yoshi can take quite a bit of punishment for a young dinosaur. Most of his specials have medium range, making him perfect for a (Gasp!) medium range tactic. Try to keep the enemy just within range of Yoshi's special attacks. Battle-plan: Move in close and stay there. The Egg Bomb and Dino Stomp attacks won't even hit a fighter in close. The Tongue grab may be a problem, but it is fairly slow. Combos: Similar Fighters: Omega Red, Sakura (VS version) Stats: Power: 4 Energy: 5 Defense*: 7 Speed: 5 Ratio: 2 Special Moves: Egg Bomb*: Yoshi throws a green egg upward at an angle. (A)(W) Tongue Grab*: That tongue shoots out of Yoshi's mouth, grabs, and throws the enemy. Dino Stomp*: Yoshi jumps up and forward, then shoots downward like a bullet. Baby Yoshi: Yoshi drops an egg, which hatchs and charges the enemy. Egg Roll: Yoshi rolls an egg along the ground like a bowling ball. Basic Throw: Holds the enemy and headbutts Bonus Ability: Rolling Evade (as an egg) Launcher: Swings his head in an upward sweep Hyper Attacks: Egg Hail*: Yoshi tosses 20 eggs into the air at a variety of angles. (W) Huge Tongue: A gigantic tongue comes out of Yoshi's mouth and slams the enemy. 5 Hits Hard Boiled: Yoshi turns into an egg and rolls forward. Hits up to 12 times. (W) Enter: Yoshi hatchs out of an egg. Taunt: Yoshi waves his arms up and down like a bird and squeaks "Yoshi!" Victory: Repeated Taunt. Top |
Bowser Koopa
Bowser has been Mario's enemy since his very first game. This giant turtle commands the legions of mushrooms and turtles in the Mushroom Kingdom. He loves to kidnap Princess Toadstool, which always pisses off Mario.
Strategy: He is very big! Bowser works well as a projectile user, despite his massive bulk. His only real melee special is the Spiny Torture. Use it to keep the enemy back and bombard them with Turtle shells. Battle-plan: His size often works to his disadvantage. His head and chest are wide open for most jumping attacks, and there is little Bowser can do to counter. Combos: Similar Fighters: Dhalsim, Amingo Stats: Power*: 8 Energy: 5 Defense: 6 Speed: 3 Ratio: 2 Size: H Special Moves: Torch Beam*: Bowser shoots a blast of fire out of his mouth. (F) Spiny Torture*: Koopa curls into his shell and spins towards the enemy. (A) Koopa Trooper: Koopa throws a turtle shell bowling style. Great Hammer*: Throws a hammer upwards in an arc. Goomba: Bowser lets loose a walking mushroom to explode on the enemy. Basic Throw: Pushes the enemy to the ground and jumps on top of him/her Launcher: An upward headbutt Hyper Attacks: Flame Breath*: Bowser unleashs a large blast of fire. Similar to Dhalism's Tsunami Flare. 16 Hits (F) Quaker: Bowser performs a small hop and causes the earth to shake. Unblockable if on the ground. (E) Hammer Hail: Bowser throws 18 hammers through the air. Enter: Koopa rides a falling star to battle Taunt: A giant star appears and Bowser dances. Victory: Dances like he does in Mario Party. Luigi
Mario's taller, greener big brother. Luigi has always been cheated out of the top billing in his gaming career (We will not talk about that game called "Mario is Missing"); always acting like a side-kick more than a hero. Like most of the Nintendo characters, he is based on his Smash Brothers incarnation. Strategy: Like Mario, Luigi is a complete package, good at both distance and hand-to-hand combat. However, his Invincibility makes him better at an in your face battle plan. BattlePlan: Since his stats are all average, even most Ratio 1 characters have a stat higher then Luigi's. Try to fight him using an opposite strategy (If Luigi is fighting in close, use a distance plan, or vice-versa). His average abilities mean you simply need to overpower him with your characters strong points. Combos: Similar Fighters: Mario, Ken/Ryu Family Stats: Power: 5 Energy: 5 Defense: 5 Speed: 5 Ratio: 2 Drain: Super Armor 2 Special Moves: Direct Fireball*: Luigi throws a green ball that moves straight ahead, bounces off walls (A,E) Block Basher*: A fist first uppercut attack. (A) Rotor Attack*: Luigi spins around, smacking around the enemy. Smash Hit: Luigi winds up, and smacks the other guy upside his head (E) Super Armior 2: Luigi has star power. Basic Throw: Bowls the enemy like a turtle shell Launcher: A basic uppercut Hyper Attacks: Fallen Stars*: 12 star-shaped projectiles fall on the enemy. (E) Plumbers Wrench: A dashing punch (C), followed by 10 more attacks Fire Flower: Luigi draws out a flower and shoots a large flame from it. 20 hits (F) Enter: A warp-pipe comes out of the ground, and Luigi jumps out of it Taunt: Puts his hands behind his back and kicks shyly. Almost like "ahh shucks" Victory: Grabs a Leaf, turns into Raccoon Luigi, and flies away Top |
Hammer Brother
One of the servants of the Koopa family. A hammer brother is a turtle that throw hammers. They almost always fight in pairs. This one is also has the powers of the football turtle in Super Mario World Strategy: His shell is his strongest point. Never fight with out it. If knocked out of the shell, go pick it up! Of course, people fighting Hammerbro can slaughter him with it. Combos: Similar Fighters: Yoshi Stats: Power: 4 Energy: 2 Defense*: 7 Speed: 4 Ratio: 1 Size: S Special Moves: Hammer Toss*: Throws a hammer up in an arc Tackle*: Runs forward with a shoulder attack Touch Down*: Jumps into the air, drops butt first onto the ground Football: Throws a football. Only flies a short distance Basic Throw: Holds the enemy, and 6 Koopa Troopas rush together and crush the enemy Penalty: If beaten up enough, he is thrown out of his shell. Defense - 3. Launcher: An upward hammer swing Hyper Attacks: Hammer Time*: Throws 10 Hammer Tosses. Screen Flip: A square section flips around Hammerbro (C) the enemy is hurt Enter: An empty shell is on the ground, the turtle in underway crawls into it Taunt: Spins his shell on his fingers Victory: 2 Mario blocks appear, Hammer begins to smash back and forth Top |
