Yahoo! Ladder
A couple of years ago, Yahoo! stopped their fun ladder system. They started their "All-star" campaign where you would have to pay to play in a leauge. Well recently I was informed of a way to get into the old ladder system. It is not perfect with the rung/rating display, but it still functions correctly and if enough get in it, I believe it can be fun once again. Here is my step-by-step directions in how to get access to the old ladder. It is a little tough to set up, but once it is set up, it is easy to get in. Right now I am focusing on the checkers ladder, but you can do this to any yahoo game. The rooms may be empty now, but hopefully we can get enough people to come back and make it active.
Step by step directions:
1. The first thing you must do is this: Get into a room by using the backdoor. I use www.shove-it.com You can use any room, but I used Aces orbit, so I will use it as the example.
2. After clicking on aces orbit and while you are waiting for it to load, right click on the "click here if applet fails to load." Then click on the option "copy shortcut."
3. Then copy that into the address bar for ie or netscape. To copy simply click in the text box and hit "Ctrl+V"
4. Most likely that will open up two boxes. Close the yellow one with "Aces Orbit" on it and use the one that just has the game room.
5. Now on your ie game room box, click on "view" and then on "source" This opens up the yahoo source coding.
6. This is where it will get a little tougher to follow. You will need to edit several parts of the source applet to get into the ladder. The first thing you will need to change is the yog number. Mine is this:
"param name="codebase" value="http://yog44.games.scd.yahoo.com/yog/"
The only thing to change is "44" to "20" so it should read:
param name="codebase" value="http://yog20.games.scd.yahoo.com/yog/
7. One the very next line is another change:
param name="room" value="checkers_adv_c"
Simply change "checkers_adv_c" to "checkers_lad_b" so it should read :
param name="room" value="checkers_lad_b"
8. The last thing to change is the yport.
param name="yport" value="games.room.checkers_adv_c"
change "checkers_adv_c" to "checkers_lad_b" so it should read:
param name="yport" value="games.room.checkers_lad_b"
9. Now in the applet click on file and save as. Save it as anything you want, but you must have ".html" following it. I saved mine as "applet1.html". This will save the document in notepad.
10. After it is saved, your work should be done and it should be easy to access. Just open up notepad and click "open." Make sure all files are shown.(not just text files) Then right click on what you saved it as (applet1) and choose "open with" then "internet explorer." This should open up and you will be in everest.
This should work. If it does not, it is most likely that you made an error in changing the applet. Go back and double check and you should be able to get it to work.

A few things to remember:
1. Your cookie runs out every 24 hours. So after 24 hours you will need to do one of two things: 1)redo the steps or 2)Get into a game room and open the source and copy and paste your cookie, replacing the old cookie in your notepad file.
2. If you go 7 days without playing on the ladder, you will be dropped from the standings and lose your rung.
3. We are just starting it back up now, so the rooms is empty a good percentage of the time. We already have a few dedicated players who are playing in there now. Eventually, I hope that many people will just go to the ladder to play their games. Help the ladder grow more quickly and spread the word.
