ENJOY YOURSELF WITH THE SOUNDS OF MUSIC

How to relax when life is too fast

Music is learning through your soul! There is not one type of music or one group or person that can satisfy everyone. Your mood is also the navigator to what you want to hear. I love the sounds of many groups that are mainstream. Let me invite you to my favorite groups that fit the mood of the moment.

Underground music is what is discovered talking to friends or groups that are waiting to be signed by an authentic label. I was a volunteer "merch girl"(selling t-shirts and hats, etc.) for several bands that were practically starving and came through Texas and Oklahoma. I have loved concerts and been in the right place at the right time in several occasions. New to these areas, it was exciting to experience behind the scenes action while navigating the groups around town for food and fun. NO, not a groupie, but more like a mom. It is exciting when you hear a group you knew back before discovery being played on the radio or on MTV.

Some of these groups that were discovered are:

Motion City Soundtrack

Polyphonic Spree

All American Rejects

Now I am just waiting for some new bands to find their label or travel to our area for everyone to hear. A local band Tied for Second is trying to find an audience in our area at the moment.

The second area of music I enjoy is Jazz/Blues. My grandfather taught me about several types and the artist,Chet Baker who was fantastic on the trumpet. Everyone has heard of Nora Jones, Diana Krall, and Harry Connick Jr. I love them too but continue to search for new sounds. Eva Cassidy had a velvet voice and died at a young age. Her CD's are more popular now than when she was alive. She was very shy and did not like to perform in public.

My newest discovery was on late night television. Jamie Cullum was on and I was blown away by him. His album Twentysomething is fantastic. He even remade a song by Radiohead which is one of my favorite bands that I got to see in Texas last year.

The third type of music will never disappear or become forgotten. Classical music has been redone since the 1800's. I love such singers as Sarah Brightman, Josh Groban, and the music of the ages. Who would believe that Elvis Costello has a classical CD named Costello: II Sogno/Tilson Thomas! He performed this with the London Symphony Orchestra. There are many composers and vocalists that are great. To experience a little of everything, the double CD labeled Classical Legends fits the bill. Even Paul McCartney has a new composition in it.

This is just a little bit of sharing my interests with you all. I hope you play around and experience some of the wonderful artists that continue to give us joy!
