This tutorial will teach u to create smk movies , portraits and other stuf.

PART 1: PORTRAITS

To create a custom portrait u must know a few things:
- Using SMKTools;
- The portrait dimensions
- 60x56x256; u must use the same color pallet that Starcraft uses[download it here];all portraits have 8 or 9 frames at 15fps.
-The corespondent in the stardat or broodat files for the unit portraits.

With all this said let's get to work.

First locate the portrait u want to modify.Notice that the same unit has several portraits.Like the zealot : it has portrait\PZealot\PZeFid00.smk portrait\PZealot\PZeFid01.smk  portrait\PZealot\PZeFid02.smk portrait\PZealot\PZeTlk00.smk portrait\PZealot\PZeTlk01.smk.                                                     The Fid portraits show the zealot in an idle state , the tlk when he talks. To modify the portraits u can modify the original frames (like changeing eye color or backgroun or even face if u are talented) or create new ones from scratch using a 3d modeling program or drawing them yourself. With SMKTools u can create portraits from gifs , avi files , or other animation files. So if you find an avi with someone talking u can use it as a portrait.

Be careful though , at the colors or in starcraft red could look like teal and yellow like green and the portrait looks like crap.Always when compiling a smk file use an extracted smk portrait from the game as pallet.

PART 2: MOVIES

The Starcraft movies are:

in SC Original:
smk\preprotoss_1.smk
smk\preprotoss_2.smk
smk\preprotoss_3.smk
smk\preterran_1.smk
smk\preterran_2.smk
smk\preterran_3.smk
smk\preterran_4.smk
smk\prezerg_1.smk
smk\prezerg_2.smk
smk\prezerg_3.smk
smk\prezerg_4.smk
smk\protoss1.smk
smk\protoss2.smk
smk\protoss3.smk
smk\protoss4.smk
smk\terran1.smk
smk\terran2.smk
smk\terran3.smk
smk\terran4.smk
smk\zerg1.smk
smk\zerg2.smk
smk\zerg3.smk
smk\zerg4.smk
smk\blizzard.smk          smk\starintr.smk
in SC BroodWar:

smk\xprotoss.smk

smk\sterran.smk

smk\xzerg.smk

smk\starxintr.smk

Starcraft movies frames are 320x308x256. U can use any pal file but no more than 256 colors. Movies are hard to do so i suggest using an advanced 3d modeling program with animation suport like 3DStudioMax for creating avi movies and then convert them to smk files.
