General Loot Procedures


- NS does not use the ‘merit system’ or DKP. (Dragon Kill Points. See www.afterlifeguild.org for details.) This is done to encourage participation on raids by allowing the most people to have a chance at loot on any given raid. The positive aspect of our taking this stance means that a select few don’t dominate the loot and even if you don’t get to join us very often, you know you have an equal chance to win loot. There are downsides to this policy, but we think that it works best for NS currently.

- When loot drops on a NS raid, procedure is 'Need Before Greed', (meaning that you should only roll on the item if it is a usable upgrade to what you are wearing now, you do not roll just to sell it in The Bazaar) with preference given to main characters, then to alts of players in attendance, and then finally the item will be ‘open lotto’ed’. (Generally, the looter will let the raid know when the item becomes available to alts or is considered ‘open lotto’.) Anything that is left over after the open lotto will go to the guild bank for general consumption.

- All ‘No Drop’ items will be rolled on immediately. It is YOUR responsibility to pay attention to /raidsay and make sure you send tells to the person in charge of lottos. Most times the lottoer will give plenty of chances for people to get in on the roll, but no set number of ‘last calls’ will be guaranteed. If you are AFK, make sure your group leader knows so the roll can be postponed until you get back, if possible.

- Droppable items will usually be rolled on after the raid ends. This allows you to make better choices when deciding on what loot you want to roll on. The lottoer will usually start with the best item first, and then work down to the ‘junk’, and you are free to roll as many times as you want, provided you haven’t already one something. (This way you can roll with everyone else on the ‘Uber Breastplate of Godliness’ and since you probably won’t win because there are a dozen other people rolling, you still have a shot at the ‘Fairy-average Shoulders of Life And Mana’.)

- There may be several ‘classes’ of loot on a given raid, such as quest armor components, Epic components, spells/parchments, and general loot. Therefore it may be possible for one person to win more than one item before another person wins something, but this is done to make sure the loot is getting used and members are not passing up on rolls because they’re holding out for something better. The raid leader and lottoer will do their best to make sure loot is handled as fairly as possible, but sometimes luck plays a part.

- There also may be ‘final piece’ preferences given. This is also done to ensure that loot is getting used, and quickly. Example: Dozekar and HoT named drop quest items that require 3-4 components. If someone has all but one of the pieces in the set, they *may* be given preference over people with fewer pieces, as they would be able to immediately use the loot instead of the piece going to someone else who might have to wait months to complete their set. (Or never finish it at all.)

- Some zones have specific loot rules set in place, and that will take precedence over general loot rules. Example: Halls of Testing. General armor pieces are one ‘class’, chest pieces are a second. However, if you win a chest piece, you are out for all general pieces until everyone has won something. (Making it possible for someone to win legs and chest back- to-back, although unlikely.) Quest pieces from Dozekar and the named mobs are a separate class. (And preference *may* be given on those.)

- There are a few exceptions to our procedures when things may be merited. Currently the only time this happens are regarding Epics. Generally, we do Epic raids with a specific player in mind, although at times some pieces will be open lottoed, such as the Necro drop from Sky.
