Introduction 2. How To Use This F.A.Q. 3. Paint Jobs By Order Of Cars 4. Acknowledgements 5. Legal Information ============ 1. INTRODUCTION ============ Welcome car enthusiasts! From racers to cruisers, this game has it all. And what better way to let your car know you care, than to dress it up in a new coat of paint. With the exception of only three cars in the game, every vehicle has at least two alternative color schemes to find throughout the cities to unlock, in addition to the already numerous colors to select from default. Part of the fun of "owning" your joy ride is making sure it is unique, or at least it matches your tastes in colors. From jet black to classic white, from racing stripes to foreboding flames, there is something out there for just about everyone. With the possibility of downloadable content, we may see more paint variations than we know what to do with! But for now, let us take a look at what you can unlock today. ====================== 2. HOW TO USE THIS F.A.Q. ====================== Some basic things to keep in mind while acquiring your pristine paint jobs: -- You must be driving the vehicle that matches the name of the paint job. In other words, if you are driving a Paris Bus, you cannot pick up the paint job for the Cement Truck. -- The color schemes unlocked are dependent upon how many of them you have found for the vehicle, not by the location of the paint job icon. This means that regardless of where you pick up the paint job, the colors will be unlocked in a certain order. Whether you hit the paint job in Washington D.C. first, or the one in Paris, you will always get the first of two or three possible. -- The only exception to the above rule regarding the dependent color scheme location is for the two paint job icons marked "????" as those are indeed distinct and unique. More on the elusive "????" paint jobs later in the next chapter. -- You can use the unlocked cars and paint jobs online as well as single/multiplayer gaming sessions. You cannot chose from the two hidden cars or unique paint jobs unless you have attained them in a single player session. -- Some quick tips before getting started: When searching for the desired paint job, switch to single player mode. Choose "Cruise" and set the traffic to "None." This eliminates the pesky commuter traffic which would inevitably get in your way, and will help you maintain the necessary rate of speed needed for some of the jumps. I would also suggest turning off the Police, to allow you to go about your business without interruption. Set the time of day to "Night." While you might think this would make things more difficult to find, it actually enhances your ability to see the glowing-blue paint job icons. They will stand out like a beacon, and point you in the right direction. One last tip for your hunt, use the third-person perspective(outside of vehicle view) to get a better look around the surrounding area. The farther away from the vehicle the camera is, the more you can see around you. Switch back if you so desire for better driving accuracy once the paint job has been located. -- I will be referring to the city maps in the Midtown Madness instruction booklet: Pages 22 and 23 for Paris, and pages 24 and 25 for Washington D.C.. If you are renting the game, or have lost your instructions, visit www.xbox.com to download the full instruction booklet. These maps will be VERY important when locating major landmarks or streets. I could have sectioned off these pages into grids, or perhaps included a graphic file with corresponding numbers, but have opted instead to give street names and landmark locations, with North/South/East/West headings. This provides a smaller file to download, and a more detailed description of where the icons are located. =========================== 3. PAINT JOBS BY ORDER OF CARS =========================== You will need to unlock the respective cars by playing through the single player game. Finishing the Undercover missions, Checkpoint races, and Blitz races will unlock all but two of the 34 possible cars. The final "secret cars" are unlocked only by attaining the paint job icons marked with "????" and in order to get those, you'll need the fastest car in the game, the Koenigsegg CC. The Koenigsegg CC is unlocked when everything else in the game has been completed. So without further delay, here are the cars and their locations: ____________________________________________________ AMBULANCE: --------- PARIS: Upper left area of page 23, along the Boulevard Des Batignolles, you'll see a blue medical symbol which represents the hospital. Drive through it. ____________________________________________________ ASP (SECRET CAR): ---------------- PARIS: Left side of page 23, the paint job is labeled with a "????" icon. It is way up in the air on the Northern side of La Seine river, to the West of Musee Du Louvre symbol on the map. You'll need to start your jump way back at the East end of La Seine river, and follow the road West as you bring your Koenigsegg CC to full speed. The cement ramp is along the upper wall of the river. ____________________________________________________ AUDI S4 AVANT: ------------- PARIS: Just a bit toward the bottom of page 23, where La seine splits and where the Notre Dame is located, you'll find this paint job a little in the air, requiring you to use a jump to hit it. PARIS: To the left side of page 23, on the North side of La Seine just off to the West of Quai Des Tuileries, it hangs in the air next to the Place De La Concorde. A small jump off a skateboard curved ramp will send you up in the air for this paint job. ____________________________________________________ AUDI TT: ------- PARIS: High above La Seine river on page 22, inbetween Cours Albert 1er and Quai D'Orsay on the map, you'll need to approach this jump from a Northern road. With enough speed, you can make this jump, heading from North to South. WASHINGTON D.C.: Middle right hand side of page 25, locate the U.S. Capitol building. WASHINGTON D.C.: This relatively hard to reach paint job is located up above a dirt pile ramp on page 24, to the Southernmost area of Georgetown. It is a docks area which banks on the Potomac River, to the South of the Whitehurst Freeway. Start your drive from the East, and head West, jumping the dirt pile and possibly the Rock Creek separating Georgetown from the Rest of the city. ____________________________________________________ CADILLAC ESCALADE: ----------------- PARIS: On the lower right side of page 23, on the South side of La Seine, the paing job is waiting at the dead end of the lower level driving area along the river. Head East to pick this up after driving down the set of steps to the walkway below. WASHINGTON D.C.: Bottom part of page 25, this hangs above what looks like a skate park area. It is located to the Southeast of the Washington Monument, in a gray area at the intersection of Independence Avenue and the East Basin Drive. You'll need to drive to the Southern part of this area to see the skate park jumps. ____________________________________________________ CEMENT TRUCK: ------------ PARIS: To the right/lower right part of page 23, look for the Southernmost exit ramp off of the highway surrounding the city. You'll see two green park areas near that exit, a little to the Northwest. The paint job is in the center of the park to the South. Following with your eyes, it is directly below the red "M" icon marking a metro entrance location, again the Southernmost of the two green park areas. WASHINGTON D.C.: Lower center of page 24, just to the South of the Reflecting Pool, you'll find a soccer field with the icon right in the middle of it. Feel free to knock the giant soccer ball around after you snag the ground-level paint job. ____________________________________________________ CHEVROLET CORVETTE Z06: ---------------------- PARIS: To the lower left part of page 22, this icon is located on the roof of a building to the SouthEast of the Eiffel Tower. Use the road leading there from the Tower to reach the first of two jumps. The building is orange on the map, and runs along side the Avenue De La Bourdonnais. WASHINGTON D.C.: This hidden icon is above a building in Chinatown, almost in the center of page 25. The building is one block East of the intersection of G Street N.W. and 11th Street. You'll need to use the ramp down an alleyway filled with tables, chairs and bicycles which runs East and West. Again, look for the Chinatown symbol on the map and it will be to the West of it about one block from the landmark drawing. ____________________________________________________ CHEVROLET SSR: ------------- PARIS: Look in the center of page 23, to the right of the Palais Royal symbol, you'll see a green and orange park-like area. This floating paint job is located on the East side within this area, and will require a jump up a flight of stairs to reach it. WASHINGTON D.C.: On the upper part of page 24, in the Southeast residential area of Georgetown, you'll find this paint icon just off a dirt mound jump, floating above some trees. The street is one block North of M Street N.W., and the jump is located where the Eastbound street turns North. Jumping off the ramp, you'll be heading toward the Rock Creek waterway. WASHINGTON D.C.: Located on the upper left side of page 24, inbetween M Street N.W. and the Whitehurst Freeway, you'll see a East/Westbound river which runs through Georgetown. There is a landing along the Southern side of this river, just to the East of where the Whitehurst Freeway bends Northward. A small jump off a ramp will land you this paint job. ____________________________________________________ CHRYSLER CROSSFIRE: ------------------ PARIS: On the Left center side of page 23, just South of Palace De La Concorde, you'll see the paint can icon up in the air along the Northern side of La Seine. Use the stairs along La Seine, from the lower walkways, to reach this sky-high paint job. WASHINGTON D.C.: Just a little below the center of page 25, at the intersection of Independence Avenue and 3rd Street, this icon hangs up in the air. Use the ramp on the building to the West to get enough airtime to unlock this paint job. ____________________________________________________ CHRYSLER PT TURBO: ----------------- PARIS: In the center of page 22, to the Northwest of the Eiffel Tower and along the Southern lower walkway of La Seine, you'll find this small jump to get the paint can. It can easily be spotted on the bridge connecting the two sides of the city, separated by La Seine. WASHINGTON D.C.: Center of page 25, this paint job is along side a construction site located just below Chinatown, at the intersection of 3rd Street and D Street N.W.. It is on the South side of the construction area. Hit the jump from the West side to claim your prize. ____________________________________________________ DODGE VIPER SRT-10: ------------------ There are no unlockable paint jobs for this vehicle. ____________________________________________________ FIRE TRUCK: ---------- PARIS: You'll find this paint job to drive through next to the Southernmost support leg of the Eiffel tower. WASHINGTON D.C.: Just below the middle of page 25, to the North of the National Mall, there is an irregular shaped building. This building is South of Constitution Avenue, and above the word "Mall" of National Mall in the instruction booklet. On the South face of the building, there is a hidden area to the left. Drive into this small walled-in area to claim your paint job. ____________________________________________________ FLE: --- PARIS: On the upper middle part of page 23, you'll see a small square shaped area with a small line of green in it to the Northwest of Sacre Coeur. The FLE paint is waiting at ground level for you there. WASHINGTON D.C.: On the right center of page 25, locate the Capitol Building. Use the Southern ramp on the building to launch Westward, you can nab this icon floating just off the ledge. ____________________________________________________ FORD 1967 MUSTANG 2+2 FASTBACK: ------------------------------ PARIS: Looking at the lower left part of page 22, notice there is a white line separating La Seine, inbetween Avenue Du President Kennedy and Quai De Grenelle. Carefully navigate down to this lower walkway in the middle of La Seine from the West side. Build up some speed and hit the jump for this paint job floating up in the air. WASHINGTON D.C.: In the center of page 24, you'll see an orange square-shaped building along Potomic Parkway. Ride up onto the landing area of this building and hit the jump, sending you Northward toward what looks like a reverse-"C"-shaped building. The Icon is hanging in the air between them. WASHINGTON D.C.: On the lower middle part of page 25, to the Southwest of the U.S. Capitol Building and along Independence Avenue, you'll see a loop-de-loop of a jump made of cement. The icon is at the end of this tricky jump. Start your drive a ways back along Independence Avenue heading Eastward, and when you cross 3rd Street, angle carefully toward the jump for your reward. ____________________________________________________ FREIGHTLINER CENTURY CLASS S/T: ------------------------------ PARIS: On page 23, look up in the Northeastern corner. You'll see Boulevard De Magenta which runs NW/SE. Along that road, you'll see a green triangle-shaped park about midway down the road near the bus station. That is where the icon is hiding. WASHINGTON D.C.: Middle right of page 24, locate the Northwest/Southeast bound Virginia Avenue. There is a large garden area in the middle of this diagonal road, and the paint job is located within a circular area within the park. ____________________________________________________ GARBAGE TRUCK: ------------- PARIS: In the upper left part of page 23, locate Boulevard Des Batignolles. There is a T-shaped intersection with a North/Southbound road one block East of the hospital(blue medical symbol on the map). The paint job is located within the doors the the Moulin Rouge building on the North side of this intersection. Look for the red windmill on the roof to help point out the location. Drive through the street-level paint can. WASHINGTON D.C.: Located almost in the center of page 25, locate the Chinatown symbol on the map. It is slightly underneath the left side of the symbol, above a flight of steps down an alleyway which runs East and West. This alley contains chairs, tables and bicycles. No real jump required, but chances are that you'll get some air off the steps anyway. ____________________________________________________ HUMMER H2 SUV: ------------- PARIS: On the central upper part of page 22, locate The Arc De Triomphe. There is a Northeast bound road that head out of this area, intersecting Avenue Des Ternes, and is parallel to Avenue De Wagram. The Hummer paint job is located a block up on the road in a storefront window. It is on the corner of this road and another smaller unnamed road that connects to Avenue De Wagram. WASHINGTON D.C.: On the center of page 25, two blocks to the East of the FBI Building, the paint job is waiting on the second floor of the police station. On the in-game map, it is marked with a little blue circle. Drive up the ramp to fetch the spinning can. ____________________________________________________ KOENIGSEGG CC: ------------- PARIS: Below the Musee Du Louvre landmark symbol on page 23, this icon hangs in the air on the Southern side of La Seine. You must build up speed and hit the ramp on the North side of the river. Your river crossing jump will land you this paint job with a little luck and skill. WASHINGTON D.C.: On page 24, look for Dupont Circle in the upper right area of the map. The paint can is way above one of the nearby buildings, hanging barely over the street. You have some options to hit this one. Take the first ramp with a lot of speed and you'll get it. Otherwise, Use one ramp to get to one rooftop level, then a second and a third ramp to hit this tricky award. ____________________________________________________ LIMOUSINE: --------- PARIS: In the Southeast corner of Paris(lower right part of page 23), you'll see Norte Dame. Below and to the right of the Notre Dame icon, you'll see what looks like a orange triangle with another small orange dot right next to it. That small dot is a small semi-enclosed area, with enough room to drive a limo into it for the paint can. It is right near La Seine River WASHINGTON D.C.: To the lower right on page 25, locate the U.S. Capitol. West of this building in a angular shaped pool of water, to the East of 3rd Street. An Eastbound ramp will jump you over the pool or water to an awaiting paint job. ____________________________________________________ LOTUS ESPRIT V8: --------------- PARIS: On page 22, inbetween the Eiffel Tower and Palais De Chaillot, you'll find the paint job floating in the air. Use the lower level of La Seine walkway to hit the Westbound jump, which will launch you up high enough to nab the icon hovering above the bridge. WASHINGTON D.C.: Just below the center of page 25, you will see a horizontal line labed as the National Mall. The paint job is very high up in the air, be sure to use the cement ramp provided to hit it. I would suggest backing all the way up to the Washington Monument, and follow the cement sidewalks all the way back to the jump. Try to stay off the grass as much as possible as this tends to slow your car down. ____________________________________________________ MINI COOPER S: ------------- PARIS: Near the center of page 23, locate the Musee Du Louvre. Within this area, North of La Seine, you'll find an enclosed area which has some glass pyramid-shaped buildings. The paint job in hiding behind one of them on the ground. WASHINGTON D.C.: On the Left side of page 24 in Georgetown, along the Whitehurst Freeway, you'll find this paint icon a short jump off a ramp. You can either follow the Whitehurst Freeway East, following it until it rises up along a curve to the North, or take Westbound M Street N.W., making a turn South onto the freeway. The ramp leads to a Southern jump which should be easy to nab. ____________________________________________________ OPEL ASTRA: ---------- There are no unlockable paint jobs for this vehicle. ____________________________________________________ PARIS BUS: --------- PARIS: To the upper right side of page 22, look for the green park area in the shape of a half-circle. A street borders this park, named Boulevard De Courcelles. Just past the park on this road, heading East, is a little nook on the left hand side. This is located before you reach Boulevard Malesherbes. The paint job is street level within this small area. WASHINGTON D.C.: Bottom part of page 25, just South of Independence Avenue, you'll find a fountain area with this bus paint job within driving reach. This area is South of the National Mall. ____________________________________________________ PARIS POLICE: ------------ PARIS: In the center of page 23, this paint job is located at the Paris Police Station. Look for the blue star on the map to help locate it along Rue Etienne Marcel, North of the Palais Royal. WASHINGTON D.C.: The paint job is on the lower right side page 24. It is located off a jump over a small lake, North of the Reflecting Pool and to the right of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial. You'll need to be on the South side of the small lake to use the jump there. It is above the center of the lake. ____________________________________________________ PARIS TAXI: ---------- PARIS: On the lower left side of page 23, to the East of the Hotel Des Invalides, you will see a blue letter "P" next to a red metro entrance. This "P" is the symbol for the parking garage you will need to ascend to reach the sky-high paint job icon. Drive up to the top floor of the garage and plumet down to Earth to pick up this paint can. WASHINGTON D.C.: A little to the upper left from the middle of page 24, locate the East/Westbound Whitehurst Freeway. Above the word "Whitehurst" is a construction site, and the paint job is a short jump off the top floor of this building. ____________________________________________________ RENAULT 1985 R5: --------------- PARIS: On page 23, in the upper left hand side of the map, you'll see a blue medical symbol which shows the location of the Paris hospital. The hospital is along Boulevard Des Batignolles. This icon is located on the third floor. Make a right turn when you arrive on the third floor, and grab the paint as you decend to the street below. WASHINGTON D.C.: Lower middle part of page 25 shows a horizontal strip labeled as the National Mall. To the East of this grassy area is smaller fountain area, just before you cross 3rd street heading East. It may take a couple of tries to hit this icon, as there are many ramps at different angles. I would suggest using the ramp on the South side of the fountain. With a little driving room for some extra speed, you will eventually hit it. ____________________________________________________ SAAB 9-3 TURBO: -------------- PARIS: On the lower left side of page 22, Northern side of La Seine, you will see this icon floating midair. It is hidden among the buildings in an area with a very steep set of stairs which opens onto Avenue Du President Kennedy. Use the length of road beginning at the metro entrance along Avenue Paul Doume to build up speed as you head Southeast. You will hit a jump which will carry you to the paint. WASHINGTON D.C.: On page 24, about in the middle of this page(a little to te right), this paint icon hovers above a North/South freeway. The ramp is just West/Southwest of the intersection of Virginia Avenue and 23rd Street. This could possibly be the toughest jump to make in the game. You will need to jump Westward, as the icon hangs over the nearby highway. What makes this difficult is that you have to make a sharp turn while trying to build up speed to make this jump. Start up near Washington circle, following 23rd Street South along the left side. When you near Virginia Avenue, begin to turn right as you pass this road. Your car will hit the side of the building, narrowly missing the short cement wall which lines this alleyway. With a little luck, you'll maintain most of your speed and will hit the jump with enough heigth. It is recommended that you keep your car up to speed by using manual transmission. ____________________________________________________ SERPENT MK2 (SECRET CAR): ------------------------ WASHINGTON D.C.: On the upper left side of page 24, locate Georgetown University. It is a orange building behind a gated wall. About one block south of that location, along what turns into the Whitehurst Freeway, you will find a paint job icon labeled "????" way up in the air above the trees. To hit this icon, you will need the Koenigsegg CC. Start your run on the Whitehurst Freeway, where it meets the Rock Creek and Potomic Highway. Head West, getting your car up to speed. Maintain control of the car as the highway bends Northward. When you hit the incline of the street heading toward Georgetown University, you should be able to reach the paint job. Remember to center yourself using the yellow center line of the street. ____________________________________________________ VOLKSWAGEN NEW BEETLE RSI: ------------------------- PARIS: On the lower right side of page 22, locate the symbol for the Hotel Des Invalides. The Beetle icon is on the rooftop of this building. Using a ramp on the East side of the wall surrounding this building, build up enough speed on the connecting street to make this upward jump. WASHINGTON D.C.: On the middle right side of page 25, locate the green park area inbetween Constitution Avenue, Louisuana Avenue and 1st Street(triangle-shaped green area). The Beetle icon is to the North of a fountain located in the middle of this park, but can only be reach by jumping Northward over the fountain. I would recommend starting a ways back on Constitution Avenue, heading East or West to build up speed, then turn toward the fountain(staying on the cement path to maintain speed) for the jump needed. ____________________________________________________ WASHINGTON D.C. BUS: ------------------- PARIS: On the bottom of page 23, look for the Pantheon building. The paint job is located on the North side of this area, upon a steep hill. You will need to drive Northward along a small strip to hit this floating icon, then prepare for the fall to the street. WASHINGTON D.C.: On page 24, a little up from mid center of the page, locate M Street N.W. which runs East/West. Driving from Georgetown on this street, as you cross over the Rock Creek, turn right(South) onto the green grass before reaching the next street. The paint job is at the far end of this grassy stretch of land. ____________________________________________________ WASHINGTON D.C. POLICE: ---------------------- PARIS: Upper middle part of page 23, locate Sacre Coeur. The paint can is underneath this symbol on the map, so it will require a little scouting around to find it. It is at the top of a narrow North/South steep alleyway. WASHINGTON D.C.: This paint job is in the upper right of page 24, above a fountain in Dupont Circle. You will need to locate the adjacent ramp neaby, and follow the street it is on all the way down before starting this jump attempt. Almost the entire length of road will be required to build speed, since you are heading uphill. Hit the ramp and hope for the best! ____________________________________________________ WASHINGTON D.C. TAXI: -------------------- PARIS: On the upper part of page 23, locate the Sacre Coeur. This building has an overhang on one side of it, with a couple or archways and underlying driveways. The paint job is under one of these arches. WASHINGTON D.C.: Located in the center of page 25, just South of Chinatown, there is an orange square which shows the location of a construction site. This is on the corner of D Street N.W. and 3rd Street. The Taxi paint job is located near the top floor of this structure. Drive to the top of the building, and then make the leap of faith to the ground below to pick up this icon. ____________________________________________________ ================ 4. ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS ================ I would like to thank the makers of this game for such a fun game. This was my first FAQ, and the game inspired me enough to spend over 10 hours writing this, intermixed with gameplay. I would also like to pay special thanks to a few users on the Gamefaq's messageboard for their contributions: FeLKoN - This guy started the thread about the paint jobs, and as far as I know, he was the first around to reach the elusive "????" paint can for the Asp! Congrats again! He also helped nail down getting the Saab 9-3 Turbo in D.C. with extreme detail. El Destructo86 - His contributions to the board made for an easier time in locating numerous vehicles! Sickbacchus - Thanks for showing me where that last Paris Bus was in Paris, I could have been driving around that city for days!!! txf - Thank you for pointing out on the boards and through e-mail about the missing Garabe Truck in Paris, I somehow forgot to include this in the 1.0 version of this FAQ. This FAQ is for those people out there who are willing to give to the community, and share their enthusiasm of gaming with the rest of us hardcore gamers. ================= 5.
