So yeah, I'm making a mod of Castlevania 3: Dracula's Curse a.k.a. Akumajo Densetsu a.k.a. Legend of Demon Castle a.k.a. The Best NES Castlevania. It's not very far along (The screenshots show most of what I have done), but it's moving.

This game will not be made by Konami. I'm working on it using graphics taken from the NES/Famicom and Game Boy Castlevania games, and Final Fantasy Origins for the PSX. They've also been edited by me. Do not ask Konami for information about this game, as they had nothing to do with it and would probably be very confused. You can feel free to ask them to hurry up with those official updated rereleases of the real C3 and Rondo of Blood. That'd be nice.

Anyway, as mentioned in the warning above, I'm using graphics ripped from the NES/Famicom games, from Final Fantasy Origins for the PSX (C3 was a bit short on large, flashy graphical effects, being an NES/Famicom title and all), and from the GB games (Alucard looks much better there). As you can see from the screenshots, I messed them up a bit first. I only have two more things to say about the graphical style: It's different from the SNK/Capcom styles in most BoR mods, and I ripped/edited the graphics myself. That may be good or bad, I don't know.

I've decided to alter the graphical style a bit. Still basing it on NES/GB sprites, but my new method SHOULD be much faster, which will allow me to finish this mode BEFORE I die of old age.

It's an OpenBoR mod, and it'll use several new features, the biggest of which are probably going to be weapons and platforms. Each character will have 5 unique subweapons based on their personality, their family's historic/future weapons, and coolness factor. I've obviously got the classics (Holy Water, Clock, Crystal, etc.), but I had to dig up a few obscure weapons, and add some of my own invention.

Demo screenshots.

A preliminary High Score screen. It's great... except you can't see half the names.

I was getting REALLY bored of fighting in a town, so I made a quick 2-D clock tower. I promise that I'll make both areas look better before I'm done.

Would it really be a Castlevania game if you couldn't?

I still need to add some frames to Grant's basic animations (3-frame walks rule!), but besides that I'm probably as happy as I'll ever be with his animations.

Grant no longer hovers in air for any of his attacks.

.

Where do the Belmonts keep those things?

I'll probably make a boss of some kind next. I've got nothing to look forward to at the end of stages right now.

No, I haven't figured out some ingenious way to let heros throw multiple projectiles in one attack (enemies can do it pretty easily, though). And ignore the "!!!Bad!!!Animation," please

Grant's quite an acrobat.
