The game Grand Theft Auto takes you into a life of crime. The character you play, Tommy Vercetti, is a recently released convict of the mid 1980‘s. The story begins with you (Tommy) owing a big time gang leader money. By doing odd jobs, most illegal of course, you rise through the ranks of the criminal underworld as you strive to retrieve the money you owe.
Car jacking, drive-by shootings, murders, assault, prostitution, stereotyping, and anything else you can imagine play a major roll in this game. Though the violence is intense, there is a sense of comic mischief behind it. Obviously this game is meant for mature users as it was given a “M” (Mature) rating by the ESRB.
While the violence can be mind boggling, the graphic animations of the brutality are hardly first rate when compared to the graphics of the newer games out there. The following are several screen shots of the in-game violence present in this game.

This game offers the player a feeling of freedom. This is what, I believe, has made it so popular among people of all ages. It tends to offer a release at some points. After all, who hasn't wanted to relieve some stress by smacking your co-worker across the head with a golf club. But as adults, we are supposed to be able to understand that this is a game, and in the real world, smacking your co-worker across the head with a golf club isn't always appropriate.
I'll leave you with several screen shots taken from mid-gameplay.
Enjoy.
