About Hurt Your Brain Publications

HYBP has evolved quite rapidly in the short time that it has been running. It first started off as a publisher only for new authors. We also started focusing on digital media only (trying to save some trees!). But after about a month, we decided to attend a local sci-fi convention and we felt that having just digital books with only one story wouldn't be worth the dealers' fees. So we designed two games. Salvage Lords and Delphacube.

Salvage Lords grew rapidly and play testing commenced after a few short weeks. But we were having problems finding parts for the game and time was incredibly short. Then it hit us, since the game is about recycling, why don't we make each game out of whatever parts we can buy/scrounge? That thought turned out to be very pivotal. A box was created using spare carton "parts" and covered/sealed with the shredded junk mail that we get every week. And by doing this recycling method, we realized that making games by hand will be the way to go. Making sure that when you by a game from HYBP, you know that it was made individually by hand.

Our next game to be developed suffered a huge set back 48 hours before the convention would start. None of the material arrived until 48-72 hours before the convention started! We were stressed. So I had to use the pieces that were made for me by a friend. But unfortunately the pieces were not cut very well and the material was extremely light. So a new set of rules and objectives (and painting schemes) were created that afternoon - with less than 2 days to go (and we still had to finish assembling the Salvage Lords games and complete the D-Books). So in a few minutes, Delphacube was born! The object: to actually form the cube out of 216 small, light weight, not quite perfect cubes. And it was my best seller (sold out completely in the 3 days).

By this point we knew that the true gamer was still out there. The person who wants to see the face of his opponent. To experience victory that you can not have online or with a PC/console game. Within 6 months, we had 3 major product lines (Salvage, Delpha and Create-A-Game) that spawned over 25 games.

We still do digital publishing (D-Books) and are always looking to give a new author a chance to get published. And published quickly. But now the little company with the strange name has started to grow and will soon have games, services, employment opportunities, investment opportunities (minimum 20% return), T-shirts/buttons/magnets, stories, gaming competition, paintball teams, paintball supplies (direct to the field service) and other areas (like our chain mail kits).

For the business minded people, or for those of you contemplating sending us an idea or submission, we have been in the black since the second month and we hit the B/E point very early every year.

Thank you for your time to read a little about us and I hope you enjoy our games as much as we do!
