I have had several paranormal experiences in my lifetime but I think the one
about the "beer drinking ghost" is my favorite.
One night several years ago I was spending the night with a friend of mine who
was rather uncomfortable with being totally alone. As she was living in a small
apartment I opted to sleep on the living room sofa. We sat up late but decided
to go to sleep sometime around midnight.
I woke up around 3 Am to go to the bathroom and when I went back into the living
room and sat down on the couch I saw this man sitting in a rocking chair across
the room. I was so caught up in the mystery of why this man was there that I
simply forgot to be afraid. He was about six feet tall, with black hair and was
wearing blue jeans that were rolled up one roll at the bottom and a lumberjack
style flannel shirt and black leather shoes with no socks and curiously his
shoes were untied. I also noticed that he was drinking a tall can of beer and
smoking a cigarette which filled the entire room with smoke. He would raise the
beer, take a sip and then set the can of beer on the floor. Right at his left
elbow was a small red light. I just sat there staring and watching him raise and
lower this can of beer then he tipped the can towards me as though offering me a
drink.
As I continued to watch this scenario I began to realize that I was actually
seeing a ghost. And, the odd thing was that as soon as I starting thinking about
that fact this man was dead he began to disappear. Not a fading out, but an
implosion of sorts, like the entire scene was sucked down into a black hole. The
next day I told my friend about it and I really think she thought I had lost my
mind.
But, about two weeks later she called me all excited and was telling me that she
had gone to visit her brother and his wife and was poking fun at me about the
ghost. She told me that her brother and his wife became strangely silent and
told her that what happened was not a joke but very real. As it turned out her
brother and his wife had given her that chair as she had very little furniture
at her divorce. It had previously belonged to her sister-in-laws father who was
now deceased. He died from lung cancer from a lifetime of smoking and was an
alcoholic who liked to sit and listen to a police scanner and drink beer. He had
a habit of setting the can of beer on the floor so he he lean on the table to
better hear the scanner. He also had a habit when he began ill of not wearing
socks with his shoes and loved the lumberjack style shirts and blue jeans which
by the way, he rolled up the bottoms ...one roll.
