HIBERNIAN FOOTBALL CLUB
The story of Hibernian Football Club all began from the idea of founders Edward Hannan and Michael Whelahan, who were both members of the St Patrick Church in Edinburgh. This idea was initially set up as to give young catholic men an interest and something to focus upon for the large Irish population of Edinburgh at the time.
Hibernian FC were officially launched as a club on August 23rd 1875, where they played in the Cowgate area of Edinburgh. It was originally only Catholic men who could play for Hibernian until 1891 and the club officially folded. The club was set up again later in the same year where religious playing restrictions were taken away and Hibernian began to form into the club they are today.
