Petz
In the Petz games (from Petz II on), you can adopt any number of catz and or dogz to take care of. You have a wide variety of toys to use. Petz do not die. They grow to adulthood and then live forever regardless of there care. Petz will, however, feel neglected and run away if you don't play with them each time you open the game. The game does not keep track of time when you aren't playing, so no risk of them running away when you don't feel like playing. In Petz 3 and later versions, Petz can breed and have essentially unlimited combinations and new colors, so your petz can be unique, and you can have several generations, which are recorded on a family tree and profiles in the game. The wide fan following of this series has created quite a variety of new breedz, clothes, and other downloads, so even if your favorite breed isn't included in the game, you might find it online.
The versions and their features (all are backwards compatible):
Catz 1/Dogz 1: Old looking graphics, 5 breedz in each. Made for both Mac and PC.
Petz II: New look for the Petz. 5 breedz in each game, but now the games can be combined, so dogz and catz can play. New toys, and add-ons available.
Petz 3: 10 breedz of catz and 10 breedz of dogz. Petz can now play in several interactive environments. They can also play dress-up with a variety of clothes, and Petz have genders and can breed.
Petz 4: Not a great improvement over Petz 3. Some new environments and a travel log added. Voice recognition feature lets you train your dogz and catz to voice commands. Non-breedable pigz and bunnyz available (some fan sites contain patches to allow breeding).
Petz 5: The petz look the same, but the environment graphics changed. No travel log or voice recognition. Now 15 catz breedz and 15 dogz breedz but no pigz or bunnyz. Toys must be earned by playing the minigames in the new environments. Petz now have litters of 1 to 4 rather than only one baby at a time.
Likes: So cute, and they act like real cats and dogs. Breeding is a lot of fun. The online Petz community is very strong, so there is a major exchange of files and things to do.
Dislikes: Absolutely no care required, so no challenge at all. You don't even need to feed them. They can't die. Of course, this makes it a family game, good for any age, but it would be more interesting if you had to actually take care of them.
