Chronos V

"It is the year 1135 after the Unison when Horus the first Emperor made himself the undisputed ruler of Earth. Since then mankind has prospered under his and his heirs´ just rule. 23 generations of the royal family have come and gone, and it has been their vision that made the Terran Empire the mighty power it is today. Terran technology allowed the Imperial forces to colonise planets in dozens of solar systems and no other race has dared to face mankind. But things have changed.

At the height of its power the Terran Empire, under the rule of Emperor Commodus I, received a message from one of their most distant scientific stations. Beneath the surface of the allegedly lifeless world of ChronosV the scientists claimed to have found the key to an unlimited supply of energy - the power mankind would need to further it ventures into space.
A crystal that should technically not exist has been found and the whole planet is clustered with sites where digs revealed huge deposits - each of them alone sufficient to power the entire Terran Empire for centuries. But then contact to the station was lost.

Deep in his private sanctury within his palace in Imperial City the Emperor swiftly made the decision to send out the largest army in recorded human history to face whatever may have caused the sudden silence. When the fleet, which was made up of almost half of all Terran forces, sprang out of hyperspace near ChronosV a few weeks later, the face of the planet had changed.

Where before there was no sign of life there now was an alien colony. The mysterious race which called themselves the Anchients clearly did not want the Terran Empire ever to set foot upon what they claimed was their property for millennia, the battles that inevitably followed were the most savage in recorded history. In the end the Terrans succeeded in establishing a foothold upon the remnants of the destroyed station - a small city from where they now fight in daily battles. But great is the power of the Anchients and heavy the loss of men within the ranks of humankind. The once so glorious army has now been reduced to a quarter of its strength and even the new troops being sent in as reinforcements barely replace the daily losses.

Little is known about the Anchients except that they are able to speak our language and have humanoid bodies. Their origin is as mysterious as their powers which remind us of certain primitive stories of times long past, when Earth was still supposed to be populated by those who were capable of wielding arcane powers. Whether it is real magic or just another kind of technology mankind has yet to master it is clear that for the first time the Terran Empire stands against a power that rivals its own. Only with your help can the Terran Empire prevail!"
