The latest addition to my website is also my latest addiction. Poker freeroll tournaments. Most poker sites have tournaments, but not all have freerolls. I have put together a list of all of the tournament sites that I've been to so far, that offer single or multi-table freeroll tournaments, some with real cash prizes. As usual, if you know of a poker site that has freerolls that I've missed, feel free to drop me an EMAIL. **Special thanks to my friends BetUICan, Rikeye, & U_BET from Pokah! for their input in helping put this page together.
*Most times given are in Pacific Standard Time and it's best to be at each tournament an hour early to ensure a seat.
Pokerroom.com has so far given me the best luck. Not only have I actually won a few of their tournaments, but the site has a more friendly-ish feeling to it. I don't know......maybe it's just me. Anyway, they have 2 multi-table tournaments each day. The first one is at 6am and the other is at 12pm. Both have a $50 prize for the 1st place finisher, $25 for second, and $10 for third place.
Also, check out POKAH! the online poker community of Pokerroom.com, which you can find by clicking here or by using the link on my home page. At Pokah you can check out some of the faces behind the names of the players, write messages to each other in the forum, as well as post your own info on a personal page that others can read and respond to.
America's Cardroom is a pretty good site with a lot of regular customers. In fact you will see a lot of the same people who play at many of the sites on this page at any number of these freerolls. It kinda gives you a nice, family feeling. (Except there's a lot more cursing, belittling, and name calling......well I guess it depends on your family, but for me, I felt right at home.) They have three $500 tournaments; Wednesdays at 2pm, Saturdays at 8pm, and Sundays at 7pm. New tournaments are sometimes also randomly announced so if you're in the mood to play in a tournament, Americascardroom.com is worth checking on.
Partypoker.com is where alot of the self-proclaimed poker pros go to play poker online. If you read many of the poker player magazines, you'll see Party Poker advertised. It is also the sponsor of the Party Poker Million tournament, which is a real-life poker tournament aboard a cruise ship. Only those who are rich enough to afford a spot, or good enough to win themselves at the site can attend. However, for those of us who are content to simply join in the freeroll fun, they offer one or two a day. The turn-out is usually quite high, (the number of people who can register is usually between 800-1000) but the prize pool is quite high as well. The winners of each of their daily freerolls can also earn a qualifier entry in the tournaments to go on to possibly win a seat at the Party Poker Million.
Poker Stars is another quality poker room with various freerolls, some with cash prizes, at different times. They don't seem to have any set schedule, however, so it's up to your timing to make it into one. The graphics are nice as are the people and it's definitely worth a visit.
One of my favorites is True Poker. Their graphics are excellent and their play money tournaments are worth it, if for no other reason, to practice your Omaha Hi/Low and Hold-em with the coolest avatars (which are one of the things that make this site more realistic than the rest.) They usually have one real money freeroll each day. Unfortunately, freerolls are limited now to persons who have played real money on their site and have earned player points. However, the atmosphere makes it definitely worth the download.
Big Bet Poker has a pretty good site and they offer Holdem, Omaha, Omaha Hi Lo, 7 Stud, and 7 Stud Hi Lo usually pot limit freeroll tournaments at 2pm daily on Monday to Saturday and on Sundays at 11am. There is a $100 prize pool for the Mon-Sat freerolls and a $200 prize on the Sunday game. The payouts depend on the number of people entered in the tournament and are in Promo dollars which is best explained by them:
Promo dollars are dollars that will be held in your account for conversion into real dollars. Promo Dollars are converted into real dollars by participating in real money cash games. Every hour your rake contribution will be totaled and THREE TIMES THE VALUE will be converted from your promo dollars into real dollars.
Haven't quite figured it out myself but I'll be sure to explain better once I've experienced it.
24 hour poker has 5 tournaments daily. They are at 1:30am, 5:30am, 8:30am, 4:30pm, and 6:30pm (PST.) They offer Texas Hold'em, Omaha H/L, Omaha, a Canadian version of Hold'em called Soko, and a new 7 card stud and 7card stud H/L game each with a $10 prize pool with payouts according to the number of players who have entered.
Poker Pages not only has about 7 freerolls per day, but it also boasts a poker school where you can join for a small fee and learn from some of the best, how to play and win at poker. It's definitely worth it to download the software and check it out. So far the only problem I've seen is the number of people who enter is quite high and each tournament takes quite a while to complete because of all of the extremely good poker players who play there. Then again, I'm sure many people would rather play poker with people less skilled than themselves, the odds are better, but for those of you who like a challenge, this would be the place to go and play poker.
Jet Set Poker is another site I found and it's one of the more unique ones as well. One thing that sets it apart is it's partnership with 3 of the most talented figures in the poker circuit, Mike Caro, Robert W. Thompson II, and John Sutton. And with their many promotions for both real money players and fun money players with prizes such as GoPoints that you can use to buy merchandise at the Jet Set Poker store. The site is also one of the only poker rooms that offers Pai Gow poker. Check it out!
