Victory for the men's Team

Women's League: University - Aloysians (11-21)

Stephan Vancell's side surely deserve merit for the progress they are showing from game to game. Whereas in their previous matches they gave a very brave performance during the first period and faltered in the second, this time round the University girls were completely dominated during the first half but gave a very good account of themselves during the second period.

In fact, Aloysians, well led by Roslyn Debattista, who scored seven goals, were head and shoulders above their opponents in the first half to the extent that at the end of the first half they were already enjoying a nine-goal lead, 11-2.

But during the second period the University team performed much better. Lead by Rosette Mattocks and Yanika Desira, University were an improved lot during the second period and as a matter of fact Aloysians only managed to increase their advantage to just one goal, 21-11.

Men's Championship League: University - Kavallieri (20-19)

Prior to this match both teams were stuck at the bottom of the table on three points. Hence, both sides were determined to acquire all three points to move closer to La Salle Nespak, who were in the second position on seven points.

University got off to a better start as gradually Kavallieri were managing to control their opponents and they also found the time to venture forward and build up some good attacks. By the end of the first half it was evident that there was not much difference between both sides and it was clear that the second period was all to play for.

Although Kavallieri tried hard to move close toward the University side, the latter never let go of the match. With the scoreboard signalling an 18-18 five minutes from time, both teams had the chance to win. A minute later University forged ahead while fifty seconds later Kavallieri hit back through Colin Sammut. Two minutes from time Dennis Zammit once again put Ronald Zammit's University 20-19 in front.

In a desperate last hitch attack Kavallieri knew that they had to score to salvage a point but this was not to be as they rushed their attack and lost possession to the delight of the University clan who had then collected all three points.
