Bloody Roar Primal Fury

The Bloody Roar series has been a great hit because of its great graphics, original idea and its simplicity. Now Bloody Roar is on the Gamecube, and it looks better than ever.

The thing that makes Bloody Roar unique is the fact that during your fight, a meter at the bottom of the screen charges up. When that meter fills up you can change in to a beast, also unlocking a new button that can be used as long as you are in that form. When you do transform, the bar will slowly go down until you are changed back to a human. The major thing that is featured in Bloody Roar 4, that isn’t in any other Bloody Roar games, is the new Hyper-beast transformation. This transformation can be used at anytime in your fight by pressing a button, this will activate a sort of upgrade of you normal beast mode. Depending on how full the bar at the bottom of the screen is you will lose heath. So if the bar is empty you will lose a lot of heath when you change to hyper-beast, but if you bar is full you will lose no heath at all.

The graphics are amazing at a steady 60FPS with NO slowdown. It features 16 characters, 12 to start with, and 4 unlockable. There are also 5 single player modes and unlockable cheats. It is still the button mashing action that the older games were but in number four there is one improvement on the combos: in order to do you special move you must perform a sequence of moves unlike in the older games where you just pressed one button and finished of your opponent. One thing that gets annoying is the fact that when you beat the game and watch the little anime clip, you have to read the dialogue with no voices or sound effects, and each characters clip has the same music.

Bloody Roar: Primal Fury is one of my favorite fighting games yet, the only thing it lacks is depth. Everything besides that earn it an 8 out of 10.
