Former EBC heavyweight boss Jimmy Young (#1) wins a 12 round split decision over George "Old Chocolate" Godfrey (#7) in a barnburner. Young starts by snapping jabs, but Godfrey shoots a big right hand down the pipe that staggers the former champion in the 1st. Young quickly recovers and starts pumping the jab. Godfrey lands a series of hard hooks in the 2nd that have Young covering up and wobbly. Godfrey staggers Young again in the 3rd, hurting Jimmy more often than Williams or Shavers ever did. Young settles down in round 4, flashing amazingly fast hands while making Godfrey whiff on his hooks. George does some nice body work in the 5th, but Young makes it close, landing a few quick shots on the inside. Godfrey targets the head in round 7, staggering the ex-champ 3 times with booming shots. Young sees it slipping away, so he plants his feet to throw power punches in the 8th. He staggers Godfrey with a big right hand and a perfect left hook, but George still looks fresher after the round. Godfrey lands a right cross that staggers Young again and backs him into a corner in the 9th, but Young counters with lightning quick hooks to make the round even. The next round is dead even also, but Young grimaces and protects his side after a hard hook from Godfrey. Young looks really tired at the start of round 11, but he reaches deep for a big flurry to win the 11th assertively, though he is cut on the forehead by a snapping Godfrey jab. The last round is close but again Young steals it late. Jimmy Young takes the split decision victory 116-114 twice and 114-116. Godfrey punishes the ex-champ like no one else has ever so his stock doesn't drop far. Young is 9-1-1 since he lost his title and he's never been off his feet in 26 pro fights. How much longer can Folley ignore the prospect of a 4th fight with Jimmy?

Former EBC light heavyweight champion Joe Knight (#1) wins a unanimous decision by a wide margin over game Vonzell Johnson (#14) in 12 rounds. Johnson hangs with the ex-champion for a couple minutes of round 1, then Knight takes over with hooks upstairs. Johnson lands one flush uppercut in the 2nd, but mostly Knight dominates. Joe continues to outwork Johnson for the next few rounds, and he staggers Vonzell with a nasty hook followed by a low blow for which he is warned in round 5. They trade flush hooks at ring center in round 7, and Johnson is cut, but neither fighter blinks through the fantastic action. Knight settles into a groove when Johnson tires in the 8th, pecking from the outside while throwing an occasional counter hook. Johnson pursues vainly while bleeding from the mouth until the final bell. Knight wins the unanimous decision going away. Joe hopes that Jack O'Brien is watching as he wins his 5th straight fight.

Middleweight Tommy Uren (#14) wins his rematch with Eddie Andrews (#17) by a devastating 3rd round knockout. After a feeling out round, Uren slams precise jabs home from the outside in round 2 while Andrews can't block the speedy australian's punches. Uren times a jab to land a big left hook counter that drops Andrews suddenly for the full count in round 3. Uren wins the rematch, this time by knockout.

Young light heavyweight Battling Levinsky (#15) wins a unanimous decision over Jorge Ahumada (#12) in a tough matchup. About a minute into round 1, Levinsky lands a killer of a left hook that puts the argentinian down for a 9 count. Levinsky backs him into a corner and opens up with hooks on the inside, but old-school referee Octavio Meyran doesn't even hint that he might stop it although Ahumada doesn't throw a punch after the knockdown. Levinsky maneuvers Ahumada into a corner and starts firing in round 2, and Jorge can only eat leather and miss. Ahumada is finally competitive in round 3, working the Battling one's body, but he sports an eye swelling after the round. Jorge puts together a beautiful rally late in the 4th, including a nasty shot to the gut at the bell, and Levinsky is seen clutching at his ribs while walking back to his corner after the round. Levinsky purposefully outworks Ahumada in the 5th, but again Ahumada hurts him to the body at the end of the round. Levinsky targets Jorge's damaged eye in round 6, and it looks a lot worse after Levinsky wins the round. Ahumada gets desperate in round 7, and so they take turns staggering each other at ring center in a round of the year candidate. Ahumada solidly wins round 8, but his eye looks just horrible. Levinsky wings shots in the 9th, landing almost everything he throws at the half blind Ahumada. They trade right handed bombs early in the 10th, and Levinsky staggers him with a flush left hook with 30 seconds left in the fight. Levinsky misses with another hook and Jorge lands a crushing uppercut that sends Levinsky staggering across the ring with 3 seconds left in the fight. Levinsky takes the unanimous decision by a decptively wide margin because this was a tough fight.

Light heavyweight Lloyd Marshall (#4) scores a 9th round TKO over tough-guy Julio Gonzalez (#8) in a brutal display that produces no less than 6 knockdowns of the stubborn Gonzalez. Gonzalez gets great leverage on a body shot seconds into the fight, breaking one of Marshall's ribs, setting up a big rally that really shakes Lloyd up. Marshall comes out to land a right cross that floors Julio only seconds into round 2. Gonzalez is up at 8, but his legs are gone. Lloyd tears into him for a full 2 minutes as Gonzalez can only play defense. Julio looks to hurt Lloyd's damaged ribcage, but Marshall employs sublime footwork and defense to protect it in the 3rd. Early in the 4th Gonzalez feints to the body, but then throws a hook upstairs that puts Marshall on his heels. Lloyd lands a big right hand counter a few seconds later that staggers Julio and starts a shiner on his left eye. Gonzalez is having a lot of success in the 5th on the inside, when suddenly Marshall lands a booming cross to the chin that drops him for a 3 count. Gonzalez had been hammering Marshall so thoroughly that the round is scored evenly. They trade power punches in the 6th, and Gonzalez manages to hurt Lloyd to that damaged ribcage, setting up a gigantic rally by Gonzalez that sees him land 6 straight right hand bombs late in the round. Lloyd times a jab early in the 7th dropping Gonzalez for a 4 count this time, and Gonzalez gets up totally gassed. Marshall drops him again for a 7 count, then once again with an uppercut for a 4 count. Gonzalez' eye looks terrible after the round, and though he bravely fights back in the 8th, Marshall has the fight well in hand. Marshall lands a shot to the liver that floors Julio for a 3 count, then hammers Julio until referee Byrd mercifully calls a halt with a few seconds left in round 9. Marshall toughs out the broken rib to absolutely destroy Gonzalez in a beauty of a fight.

Middleweight Young Stuhley (#6) wins a 10 round unanimous decision over slugger Jose Basora (#7). Stuhley's airtight defense allows him to counter Basora repeatedly in the opening rounds, but Jose lands a thudding right hand at the end of round 2 that freezes Stuhley for a moment. Basora aggressively comes inside in the 3rd, but Stuhley has recovered enough to absolutely counter Basora's ears off in the 3rd. Basora lands a huge hook to open the 4th, triggering a wild exchange that brings them to their feet, though neither fighter clearly wins the round. Basora snaps Stuhley's head back with a powerful right cross early in the 6th, but Stuhley is saavy enough to make Basora miss most of the follow up flurry. There is some nice action in the 8th, and Stuhley lands a big right hand that makes Jose do a little dance to stay upright at the bell. Stuhley cautiously pecks in the 9th, but he leans into a right cross that floors the puerto rican for a 3 count midway through the final round. Basora covers up until the final bell, and Young Stuhley takes the unanimous decision 98-94 twice and 97-95. Stuhley wins his 3rd fight in a row, including his cuts TKO of Harry Greb.

Young super middleweight Chris Eubank (#7) wins a unanimous decision over former champion Steve Little (#2) in 10. Eubank scores pretty regularly in the 1st, so Little slows the action by holding and moving in the 2nd producing a dull round. Eubank suddenly explodes a hard combination that drops Little for a 4 count with a minute left in the 3rd. Eubank bulls his way inside the rest of the round, but Little pretty much recovers by the bell. Little starts to outbox Eubank in the 5th and 6th, staying outside while scoring flicking punches. Chris wins the 7th, landing one huge body shot in an otherwise even round. Little tires badly in the 8th, and Eubank starts to string his punches together in flashy combinations resulting in a deep cut under Little's left eye. The action slows in the 9th, but Eubank lands a terrific punch to the midsection that breaks 2 of Little's ribs early in the final round. Ironically, Eubank breaks his right hand about a minute later with a hard punch to Little's forehead as Steve was ducking. At the final bell it's Eubank who takes the solid unanimous decision victory.

Welterweight Milton McCrory (#2) scores a quick knockout of Turgay Uzun (#11) in only 2 rounds. McCrory stuns Turgay at the end of the first round with a left hook to the temple. Uzun is staggered again with an uppercut followed by one nasty body punch to kick off the 2nd. Uzun is gasping for breath, so McCrory starts to tee off upstairs on the now badly hurt german until Uzun goes down from a right cross late in the 2nd. Turgay gets as far as one knee, but the referee Morita counts him out. McCrory looks very impressive. Economical with his punches until his opponent was hurt, then unleashed a landslide of punches until Uzun was unable to continue. Smashing.
