Thank you very much to Nintendo Land for research!

No doubt have you heard his name. He's the creator of Mario, Link, Zelda, Donkey Kong, Star Fox, etc. etc. etc! This page is a little about the man who saved video gaming from its downfall.

Shigeru Miyamoto went to Karia Municipal Arts & Crafts College in Japan, majoring in industrial design. His birthday is November 16, 1952 and was born in Sonobe Cho, Japan. As a child, he loved to explore the surroundings of his house and play baseball with his friends. He was excellent at making puppet shows and was a great cartoonist. He loved to paint and even organized a cartooning club at his school!

In college, he loved music and playing the guitar. So much so, that he missed a lot of classes and had to attend college for five years!

After graduating, Miyamoto-san asked his dad to ask Hiroshi Yamauchi about getting him a job at his company, Nintendo. Mr. Yamauchi was skeptical, seeing that he didn't really need painters, but he hired him anyway, after seeing some toy designs that Miyamoto came up with. Eventually, he was called up to make a video game, which was called Donkey Kong.

Shigeru says the secret to making a good game is, "You have to lay down much work on the game and be willing to let the private life suffer a bit, too." He is very devoted to his work and won't release a game if he isn't satisfied with it.

Shigeru has a wife named Yasuko, as well as two kids. His wife worked at the administations office at Nintendo when they met. He enjoys swimming, softball, skiing, playing the guitar and the piano.

To us loyal gamers, he can be known as the man behind the magic...
