- THE CONFUSION OF THE FF TITLES -

If you own every US-released Final Fantasy game (you semi-traitor!), you'll notice that there's a jump from Final Fantasy 3 to Final Fantasy 7. Why?

When the first FF was released for the NES, it wasn't as popular in the US as it was in Japan (The Metroid series is the exact opposite!). So FF1 made it here, but it's two NES sequels, FF2 and FF3 only were released in Japan.

When FF4 was about to come out, Nintendo and Square decided to release it in the US. But a jump from 1 to 4 would be weird, so it was titled FF2. FF5 was another Japan-only (unless you have a PSX game called Final Fantasy Anthology). And then came FF6. Adilink's favorite FF game of all time. A jump from FF2 to FF6 would be weird (yet again), so of course, it was released as FF3. But FF7 returned the balance of the FF games.

Hope that cleared a few things up. BTW, Adilink somehow has a translated copy of the TRUE FF3...
