This Game Is Too Short...
Ugh... what a letdown after the last 2 games. At least when you finished them it gave you an ending that made sense (somewhat) and gameplay that was new and interesting. But because this game feels like the been there and done that it is not as good as the last two. But this game at least does add something new that is welcome and its not even part of the gameplay. That new feature is the save feature. I say its much better to have a save file thats complete with all 7 Chaos Emeralds than to do it all over again whenever you turn off the game. Although you could just leave it on all the time, but the smoke is no fun after your 3rd or 4th week. With the boring but usefull sheilds in the other 2 games you would be shocked to hear that the original sheild is not included in the game. Well, its not. But there are still shields in this game. Elemental sheilds replace the old and boring ones. The four new sheilds also give Sonic a new abillity to use. Tails, who is also playable, can use these sheilds but not their special abillities. Instead he flies around or swims if he is underwater. While this may sound cheap, he cannot fly forever and will need to take a rest now and then. Also, while in the air, he is vunerable to any kind of attacks. Woah... I talked too much about one thing... now we go back to the sheilds... Fire Sheild: This will make you walk into fire for no reason and not get hurt. Its usefull for levels with tons of fire. Too bad there are no levels like that in the game. It gives Sonic a dash attack in mid air that he can use, but it hits him more often than the enemy so its not really that good. It dissapears if you touch water. Not a very usefull sheild in this game. Lightning Sheild: This must be the best sheild in the game. That is, if there is no water to be found. Like the Fire Sheild, the Lighting Sheild also dissapears if you touch water. But it gives Sonic a very usefull double jump that makes him do a second jump in midair making some levels easier. Even better than that is the fact that any rings you are near gravitate towards you like a magnet. Very usefull for reaching bounus stages or gathering extra lives. Water Sheild: The perfect sheild for you underwater travels. It gives you infinite air underwater which means you dont have to stop to take a breath at an air bubble whenever that timer starts. Also it makes some projectiles bounce off him and gives him a weird bounce attack. He bounces around like a rubber ball and is a usefull attack. Enough of the sheilds, now on to the multiplayer mode. It has been expanded this time with new and exclusive levels which always have to be played in split screen, even when you play by yourself. Five new levels in which you complete 5 laps around a super short stage gets kind of boring. Oh well... The Special stages are back, with new bonus stages. The bonus stages have you collecting rings in a giant slot machine or bouncing around collecting sheilds in a giant gumball machine. The new special stages are now fully 3D and seem to be easier than Sonic 2s, but not as easy as Sonic 1s. These have you running into blue spheres making then red. Touch any red one and you lose. Touch all the blue ones to collect the emerald. |
And The Ending Is Bad...
Graphics: The graphics have been much improved from the first and even the second game. Sonic no longer looks funny when he grabs onto something. The graphics are nothing compared to today, but they are better than the first two games. But even back then they were not spectacular. 9/10 Sound: Tunes you will like. But not as good as the original two games. Nothing like Green Hill or Chemical Plant in here. But that does not mean the music is bad though, just not as good as last time. And Sonic still makes that "WHOOP" sound whenever he jumps, which if it drove you crazy the first and second games, will drive you crazy for a third time. 8/10 Control: What has changed? Nothing. There is absolutly nothing that is different. Some small bits that only last a few seconds are in here like riding a snowboad or new modes of transport like some sort of thing you ride on which I call "That thing that you grab onto and move foward" in the last level.9/10 How Fun Is It?: This is a disapointment when compared to Sonic 2 or even Sonic 1. Of the original 4 Sonic games for G/MD made by Sonic Team this one was sort of a letdown. The Fruit: WHERE IS THE FRUIT!?! 0/10 Final Score: 7/10 |
Because It Is Half A Game...
The ending makes no sence and the other Sonic games before it were better. Thats not to say that its a bad game though, just a little weak. That and it even feels like half a game when you finish it. But only Sonic Team knew the truth about the games length... it was half a game... the second part would not come until later in the form of Sonic and Knuckles. |
