Crazy Taxi

Released in ????

Object of the Game: To pick up as many customers as possible and make some crazy money.

Well, someone had this great idea for a taxi game. Yeah I know how I was when I first heard it too. Booooooring. But this is no ordinary taxi sim. Not only that, it may be the only taxi sim (With the exception of Crazy Taxi 2 of course). Select one of 4 crazy cabbies and do whatever it takes to drop off your customers at no matter what the cost. The 4 crazy cabbies are...

Axel: The green haired B.D. Joe: Gena: Gus: The oldest member and founder of the Crazy Taxi Cab Company, and while his name is Gus, a Gusman he is not. He always seems to want a beer though.

Driving on the road is for wimps. If cutting through the park will save you time, then by all means do it. Cutting through parks is not the only way of cutting time though. Special techniques must be mastered in order to earn the best cabbie licence ever. The Crazy Taxi licence. Cool licence, crappy name.

The special techniques range from the crazy dash, a sort of speed boost. With it you will go much faster than driving normaly all the time. The crazy drift is a kind of a massive powerslide useful for crazy turns and getting huge tips. The others are just variations on the 2. The crazy back dash is a dash in reverse, the crazy drift stop is the same massive power slide ending in a full stop. These must all be mastered to earn the crazy taxi licence and especially to win all the crazy box minigames. What is crazy box you say?

The crazy box is a set of 9 minigames in Crazy Taxi. Once you complete a few, more minigames are opened up. Some are easy. Some are so hard they will drive you to the point of frustration as massive as the crazy drift. There minigames are just here to test your driving skills. Popping balloons, knocking down bowling pins, driving through a crowded highway without being able to hit any cars. Games like that.

The DC version also packs in a new city to ride around in. This new city is much harder that the original though. Also the arrow that tells you the destination always seems to point in evil directions. For instance, the arrow points up. So you drive up. Then suddenly it starts turning left. So you figure you should be making a left turn soon. Then the arrow turns all the way left and you can't turn left because there is a building in your way. You decide to go around when you see at the end of the road you can only make a right turn. Then the guy tells you "Oh! You're going the wrong way! Follow the arrow!". How am I supposed to follow the arrow if it is pointing to somewhere I can't go? Looks like I have to drive all the way back just so I can go around the thing. Ugh...

Now Lets Go Out And Make Some CRAAAZY Money!

The Score

Hmmm. Sega is known for great arcade games. This game is as arcade as they get. That means it is not very deep, but massively fun. The Crazy Taxi characters are also very strange. As B.D. Joe would say, "Yeah! We gonna have some fun!"
