NAPOLEON IN EGYPT

This shows the "Southern town" with masses of arabs pouring in from south.
These sons of the desert were looking for the shiek's daughter. The British, who were defending the town from the masses of French attacking from the east, also managed to hold against the Arabs.
This battle used the Brom Napoleonic rules, available on our "Home rules" page.

The "thin Turkish line" which held the center.

John Switzer, at left and Fred Diamond, with "chain lightning" headgear
Fred, with rag on head to avoid the burning Egyptian sun, and John contemplate the battlefield. Sean Galey, slightly out of focus on right is the Arab chieftain. Jim Pitts, extremely out of focus, can be seen at bottom left.

Rough map of the area fought over.
This scenario was a French attack by Bonaparte's troops on a British and Turkish force in camp. The red tents contain British troops. The green tents contain the Turkish Brigade (Egypt was part of the Turkish empire at this time).
There was one British Brigade off the table which entered in the area marked "British". The French came on in the area marked "French" and, surprising both sides, an Arab force entered from the southern table edge.
Mottled areas are rough terrain and the hills are marked in orange.

Bill Estes ajusts his Turkish troops.
The British and their Turkish allies are massed in the center of the table. The French can be seen more to the right. There were five British Brigades (one of cavalry) and one Turkish Brigade.

The "Hand of fate" arranges troops.
The 'northern' town was fought over repeatedly. First the French, and then the arabs tried to enter it - to no avail!

The Turkish line - suitably reinforced with British infantry
The turks actually held quite well, considering that one of our "special cards" was drawn and the entire brigade was immobile till the brigade commander could roll a 6 on a D6, or the French shot at them. Naturally, the French eventually shot at them, and then the manly turks proved thier mettle by routing a French unit.

A French Brigade attacks the town
The arabs may be seen entering at the extreme left. They had to pass through one of the British camp areas which slowed them up.

The Arab masses flood onto the table at the extreme south.
Neither side knew which side these desert tribesmen were on. They were unexpected by both French and British/Turks. As it turned out they were there to rescue the Egyptian maiden in the town. They were unsucessful at that, but did break several British units "behind" the town.
