Best Weapons
Although roughly 100 different weapons and armour exist in the game, very few of them will prove to be useful for your journeys over the long run. Only a handful of weapons in the game are anywhere near the best of its kind, and this is basically a list of the three weapons that I believe are the best for each equipment position. Many of the weapons on this list are newer weapons, and although antiques with a high amount of skill points can easily beat any of the weapons and armour listed here, only weapons that players have reasonably good access to are listed.

The best: Head | Body | Feet | Right | Left Defense | Left Attack | Right/Left

Head

There weren't too many helmets in the game prior to the DC Upgrade on April 8, 2002, and many of the helmets that were available were the mediocre ones that could only be bought in stores. However, the head gear department has seen many great new additions after the upgrade. Although Miners Cap was once, without a doubt, the best head gear in the game, it simply doesn't provide enough defense points to compete with newer helmets that very easily gives it a run for its money.

1. Spiked Helm
Level + Fighter Skills: 21
The Spiked Helm is a fair and balanced helmet that's dropped by the Gladiators in Hie Brasil. Providing an equal amount of attack and defense points, this rather simple helmet doesn't come with any inherent attributes and is considered to be the best helmet in the game by many.

2. Imacaci Mask
Level + Fighter Skills: 31
Dropped by the Priests in Azteca, the Imacaci Mask provides the most amount of defense points out of any head gear by far in the game while also subtracting a couple attack points. However, this mask is normally associated with the Panic attribute, which isn't considered by many to be a desirable attribute to have on a weapon. This mask should only be worn by those who have a high amount of Attack and Skill points.

3. Mythril Helm
Level + Fighter Skills: 11
It was a toss-up between the Great Helm and the Mythril Helm for the third spot, but Mythril Helm gets the last spot because it only requires a combination of 11 Levels and Fighter skills to equip. Normally associated with Glow, the Mythril Helm is basically a more durable version of the Miners Cap that subtracts more skill. Then again, defense is more important than skill in many ways. The Mythril Helm is manufactured at the Dragon Guard through the Mysterious Goblin Armour mission.

Body

Body Armour have always been known to provide characters with a high amount of defense points while subtracting some skill points, but of course, few would disagree that defense points are more important than skill points in this game. There haven't been many additions to the body armour department, but the latest addition includes the Dragon Scale Jacket, which happens to be durable enough to surpass the legendary Koutetsu in terms of defense points

1. Dragon Scale Jacket
Level + Fighter Skills: 31
This newer body armour provides the most amount of defense points out of any armour in the game. It can only be manufactured through the completion of the Tears of a Dragon mission at the Dragon Guard. A majority of the Dragon Scale Jackets that are crafted at the Dragon Guard don't provide much more than 104 defense points, but they still provide enough defense points to make them better than many of the Koutetsus that are dropped by Samurais.

2. Koutetsu
Level + Fighter Skills: 26
The Koutetsu is a classic type of body armour in the game that is still used by many players. Until the Dragon Scale Jacket was introduced to the game, the Koutetsu was the best body armour in the game by far. One advantage that Koutetsus have over Dragon Scale Jackets is that they provide some nice attack points in addition to the high amount of defense that they already come with. To be precise, it provides 1 attack point for every 6 defense points that it comes with.

3. Snake Scale Suit
Level + Fighter Skills: 21
Snake Scale Suits are nice substitutes for the above body armour for lower-level characters. Players who have yet to reach Shangala can snatch one of these suits from the Medusas in Hie Brasil. They tend to subtract less skill than the above body armour as well.

Feet

Before the DC Upgrade on April 8, 2002, War Boots were by far the most popular foot gear in the game. After the upgrade, Silver Sea Slippers gained immense popularity and the War Boots were largely forgotten about. Today, the introduction of two newer foot gear, including the fabled Crystal Swift Boots, has made the War Boots and many other foot gear nearly obsolete.

1. Crystal Swift Boots
Level + Fighter Skills: 11
Without a doubt, Crystal Swift Boots are the best foot gear in the game by far. It provides many more defense points than the next best foot gear in the game and can be enchanted up to even greater stats. Best of all, this foot gear can be equipped by lower-level characters! Getting your hands on a pair of Crystal Swift Boots isn't easy, however. You should expect to complete well over 100 Noble Trophies missions at the Royal Court before receiving one of these.

2. Silver Sea Slippers
Level + Fighter Skills: 21
The Silver Sea Slippers used to be the best foot gear in the game before the introduction of the two Swift Boots. Similar to the Crystal Swift Boots, a pair of Silver Sea Slippers isn't easy to find and it can be enchanted up to good stats. Although the existence of the Crystal Swift Boots has largely jeopardized its position as the best foot gear in the game, older Silver Sea Slippers tend to provide more skill points than a pair of Crystal Swift Boots. Nonetheless, the Silver Sea Slippers that are dropped by Mermaids today are still respectable enough for it to retain its position as the next best foot gear in the game.

3. Swift Boots
Level + Fighter Skills: 11
It was a toss-up between the Sea Slippers and the Swift Boots, but Swift Boots gets the last spot because it only requires a combination of 11 Levels and Fighter skills to equip. That, and it tends to provide a lot more defense than a pair of Sea Slippers. You'll be receiving tons of these boots through completion of the Noble Trophies missions at the Dragon Guard, but you may get your hands on a Crystal version of these boots if it's your lucky day.

Right

Right-handed weapons are probably the largest category of weapons in this game, and they've always been known to provide players with an exceptional amount of Attack and Skill points. Right-handed weapons are also the only types of weapons that are effective with Flame and Luck scrolls. Before the DC Upgrade on April 8, 2002, every serious player had either a Masamune or a Gladius equipped, but today, neither of these weapons are powerful enough to make this list.

1. Silver Amini Club
Level + Fighter Skill: 31
The Silver Amini Club is the best right-handed weapon in the game without a doubt. On average, it provides less attack than a Silver Masamune does, but it more than makes up for it with its massive amount of skill points that ensures that it can be enchanted up to amazingly high stats. The newer Silver Amini Clubs provides much less skill than their older counterparts, but because they're among the hardest of silvers to find, consider yourself to be lucky if an Azteca Soldier drops one for you.

2. Silver Masamune
Level + Fighter Skill: 26
Silver Masamunes provide the most attack points out of all the right-handed weapons in the game, but one major setback is that it is commonly associated with the Panic attribute. Still, the Silver Masamune is a very respectable weapon for any player who is able to slay monsters in one hit or has enough skill to prevent even the best of monsters from escaping.

3. Silver Gladius
Level + Fighter Skill: 21
It was a toss-up between the Amini Club and the Silver Gladius for the final spot, but Silver Gladius gets the spot because it only requires a combination of 21 Levels and Fighter skills to equip and also comes with the inherent attribute of Blind, which is always nice to have for a weapon. In addition, it provides more attack points than most Amini Clubs and is a fine weapon to wield if your character isn't strong enough to quest in Shangala or Azteca.

Left - Defensive

Left-handed weapons weren't too common before the DC Upgrade on April 8, 2002, but today, a decent left-handed weapon that provides a great amount of defense points isn't too hard to find. These three left-handed weapons provide mostly defense points but also provide a respectable amount of attack.

1. Crystal Jaguar Fang
Level + Fighter Skill: 31
Dropped by the Jaguars in Azteca, this elusive left-handed weapon is among the hardest crystal weapons to find in the game, but it's also the best defensive left-handed weapon by far. In addition to providing a very high amount of defense points, the Crystal Jaguar Fang also provides an excellent amount of attack points and can be enchanted up to great stats. The Crystal Jaguar Fang acts as a replacement for the Silver Jaguar Fang, which hasn't been dropped by a Jaguar ever since this weapon was introduced to the game in June 2006.

2. Silver Jaguar Fang
Level + Fighter Skill: 31
Before its crystal variant was introduced to the game in June 2006, the Silver Jaguar Fang was about as good as one could get with defensive left-handed weapons. Today, the Silver Jaguar Fang is a discontinued weapon but many of them are still in circulation at the Trading Post. Similar to its crystal variant, this weapon provides a good amount of attack and defense points.

3. Ayotl Shield
Level + Fighter Skill: 31
Ayotl Shields, which are dropped by the soldiers in Azteca, provide some attack points in addition to the good amount of defense points that they already provide. These shields are far easier to find than Silver Jaguar Fangs and Crystal Jaguar Fangs, so you may have to settle with one of these for a while.

Left - Offensive

Left-handed weapons weren't too common before the DC Upgrade on April 8, 2002, but today, a decent left-handed weapon that provides a great amount of attack points isn't too hard to find. Two of these three left-handed weapons provide mostly attack points but also provide a respectable amount of defense points. They are perfect for players who crave attack points.

1. Crystal Gauntlet
Level + Fighter Skill: 21
One of the newest weapons that was introduced to the game in June 2006, the Crystal Gauntlet is the best left-handed offensive weapon in the game that you'll be able to get your hands on. Getting one of these, however, isn't easy. You'll have to slaughter many Golems in Hie Brasil before one of them is kind enough to drop this powerful weapon for you.

2. Shuriken
Level + Fighter Skill: 26
The Shuriken has seen better days, for it used to be the most popular left-handed weapon in the game prior to the DC Upgrade on April 8, 2002. An original favorite, the Shuriken is still a great left-handed weapon for players who are seeking sheer power. Providing a decent amount of Attack and Skill points, the Shuriken can be enchanted up to good stats and is a reasonably good alternative to the Crystal Gauntlet if you haven't had any luck with finding one. It shouldn't be too hard to find a Ninja who will drop one of these for you.

3. Silver Weird Knife
Level + Fighter Skill: 11
Silver Weird Knives are by no means powerful left-handed weapons, but they can be good weapons for newer players who are in dire need of having higher attack points. It is associated with the Disease attribute, which is always a little helpful for a beginner to have. They're dropped by the Berzerkers in both the Mounds and in the Dungeons.

Right/Left

Weapons that take up both the left and right hand slots aren't too popular in this game, but the addition of the Silver Titan Blade and the Crystal Great Bow has revolutionized the way in which some players think about such weapons. Still, a weapon that takes up both slots has to be really good in order to make up for the loss of a Left and Right hand weapon combination, and in many cases, it's better to stick to a combination of Left and Right hand weapons.

1. Silver Titan Blade
Level + Fighter Skill: 21
The Silver Titan Blade provides the most attack points out of any two-handed weapon in the game and has the potential to be even better than many left and right handed combinations. However, very few of them are handed out through the completion of The Titan Blade mission at the Dragon Guard.

2. Crystal Great Bow
Level + Fighter Skill: 21
Crystal Great Bows provide much more skill than Silver Titan Blades, but they also provide a lot less attack. Unfortunately, this elusive crystal is very hard to come across and you aren't likely to get your hands on one of these unless it happens to be your lucky day.

3. Matchlock Rifle
Level + Fighter Skill: 26
Before the DC Upgrade on April 8, 2002, Matchlock Rifles were the most common of two-handed weapons that people equipped. Today, Matchlock Rifles provide an equal amount of attack and skill points and can be enchanted to high levels. It comes with an inherent attribute in Blast, which actually isn't such an attractive attribute late in the game because it won't work at all if your character can deal more than 120 points of damage.
