ST AUGUSTINE SHOPKEEPERS

INTRODUCTION
First settled in 1565, St. Augustine is the oldest planned town and continuously occupied 
City of European origin in the United States. 
Card game for 2-4+ players. 
Theme: Players in the Modern day buy shops in the Historical Section of the 
City of St. Augustine. 

VICTORY 
The player with the most money at the end of 40 turns is the winner. 

THE DECK 
Players share a common deck 
The deck has 75 cards:
50 are Shop cards
29 are Attraction cards

SHOP CARDS
Each shop card has 2 Properties: 
1. The Type of Shop it is (There are 10 Types of Shops) 
2. What Street it is Located on (There are 5 Streets) 

MONEY
Use Fake Money. 
The Base denomination is $1,000

SETUP
Shuffle the deck. 
Each player starts with $20,000. 
The Oldest player goes first. 
Play proceeds clockwise. 

TURN SEQUENCE
Players take turns. 
Each turn has 8 Phases: 
1. Record Phase
2. Flip Phase
3. Attraction Phase
4. Bid Phase
5. Trade Phase
6. Revenue Phase
7. Street Bonus Phase
8. Monopoly Phase

RECORD PHASE
Record the current turn number. 

FLIP PHASE
Flip over the Top card of the deck. 
This is called the Flip card. 

ATTRACTION PHASE
Skip this phase if the Flip card is a Shop card. 
If the Flip card is an Attraction card, all players earn 
Income as the card text states. 
Discard the Attraction card and go back to Flip Phase. 

BID PHASE
If the Flip card is a Shop card, players may bid on it. 
Bidding starts with the current player. 
If no one wants to bid at all, the Shop card is discarded.  
Minimum Bid is $5,000. 
Bidding proceeds clockwise. 
Each bid must be higher than the last. 
The winner of the Bid keeps the Shop and the winner’s 
Bid money goes to the Bank. 
The losers of the Bid get to keep their money. 

TRADE PHASE
Players may freely trade Shop cards and Money 
Amongst themselves. 

REVENUE PHASE
The current player gains $1,000 for each shop he owns. 

STREET BONUS PHASE
Only the current player earns money in this phase. 
If you own the Most Shops on a street (minimum 2) you gain $2,000 for 
Each shop you have on that Street. 
If you are tied for the most shops on a Street, then 
you get $1,000 for each shop they have on the Street. 

MONOPOLY PHASE
Only the current player earns money in this phase.
You get an income bonus for each Monopoly you have. 
A Monopoly is when you have 2 or more shops of the same type. 
A Monopoly of 2 Stores earns $4,000. 
A Monopoly of 3 Stores earns $9,000. 
A Monopoly of 4 Stores earns $16,000. 
A Monopoly of 5 Stores earns $25,000. 
For example: You have 3 Antique Shops so gain $9,000. 
You also own 2 Ice Cream Parlors so earn an extra $4,000. 
You only own 1 Boutique, so you get no bonus for that.
