Welcome to Strawberrytart's Patch
A Strawberry Shortcake Collector's Site
The original design of Strawberry Shortcake was made in 1977 by Muriel Fahrion during her time as a greeting card illustrator at American Greetings' Juvenile & Humorous card department. Fahrion designed thirty-two characters for a division of American Greetings know as Those Characters From Cleveland, which made these cute cards into dolls. What set the Strawberry Shortcake dolls apart was the pleasant fruit scent that they possessed. A strawberry scent for Strawberry Shortcake, blueberry for Blueberry Muffin, apple for Apple Dumplin, and so on. Each doll also had an animal sidekick. Strawberry Shortcake had a kitten named Custard, Huckleberry Pie had Pupcake, Apple Dumplin had Tea Time Turtle and so on. Soon after "the cute little doll with the fruity scent" got her own set of animated cartoons. In the 1980's Strawberry Shortcake and her friends spread good cheer as well as great sweets to boys and girls, well mostly girls. Nowadays Strawberry Shortcake is still going strong with toys created by Bandi, Playmates, and Hasbro, so a new generation can join in on this sweet character.
