Newbie

A "newbie" is a generic name for a new player in any game.  But as of late, it has become more of  a derogatory term for other players that use the cheesiest strategies.

Rumor: Some argue that after your tenth game of StarCraft on Multiplayer that you cease to be a "newbie."  I suggest playing through the majority of the single player missions to get used to the game before you try to play on multiplayer.  However, once you get used to the controls and the basic game play, practice on multiplayer most of the time.  A good comp-stomping may be fun, but you'll learn the most by playing against other people.

Range

Range is the distance that a unit can attack.  Range can be increased for some units by researching Upgrades.  On this site, I classify range into the following categories:

  • Melee

    Examples: Zealots, Zerglings, Firebats, miners.
  • Short

Example: Non-upgraded Marines, Dragoons,  and Hydralisks.
  • Medium

Examples: Range Upgraded Marines, Dragoons, and Hydralisks.
  • Long

Examples: Reaver, Guardian, and Siege Tank

Choke Point- A narrow passage of land which usually is the only entrance to a
base. Choke points are easily defensible by ranged units and structures, and at
these points, air and ranged units have a considerable advantage over melee
units.

Damage Types:

Normal Damage: The unit inflicts on all units ( damage- armor)

Concussive Damage: The unit inflicts on small units (damage- armor)
The unit inflicts on medium units (damage-armor) x 0.5
The unit inflicts on large units (damage-armor) x 0.25

Explosive Damage: The unit inflicts on small units (damage- armor) x 0.5
The unit inflicts on medium units (damage- armor) x 0.75
The units inflicts on large units (damage- armor)

Splash Damage: The unit damages, in addition to the target unit, all units within a certain radius of blast unit.

Friendly units may or may not be immune to this splash.
