Kirby's Biography

This is a page on kirby's history. Kirby first appeared in 1992 in the gameboy game Kirby's Dreamland. It was a simple sidescroller where a white ghost-looking kirby paraded around sucking up enemies and spitting them out in star form. Kirby could also swallow up power blocks and use their powers. (The only one I found was a fireball one, where he sends out a fireball similar to his air puff. I also found one with the ability crash; He used this ability to destroy every enemy on the screen.) All in all, it was a below average game. The excitement was yet to come. In 1993, two games appeared for kirby. The first one was Kirby's Pinball Land for gameboy. If you've ever played Pokemon Pinball, then you would have a pretty good idea of what the game was like. His next game was Kirby's Adventure, where Nintendo first showed kirby's ability to copy his enemies' attacks. This is a great game! It is fairly primative, because it is only on the NES, but it was a great improvement over the two older games. He was able to copy over 40 abilities (I think), and the gameplay was very good. Kirby's third, fourth, and fifth game debuted in 1995. The first one was Kirby's Dreamland 2, where kirby continued to copy his enemies' attacks and use them. The addition was three animal friends, Rick the Hamster, Kine the Fish, and Coo the Owl. I think he could copy abilties, and combine them with the animals to produce abilities, the way it was in Kirby's Dreamland 3, though I'm not sure. I myself haven't played this game, but my friend squirrelboy said this was a terrific game, very challenging. Kirby's next game was Kirby's Avalanche. This was his first SNES game, and it proved to be a great hit. This game was a tetris style game, but I don't know anybody who has played it, so I don't have a primary or a secondary source for this. His fifth game was Kirby's Dream Course. This was a golf like game. Players manuvered kirby through many golf courses, with the original baddies serving many different roles. Some of them could be broken up and Kirby would take their ability; For instance, he would charge into one of those bird guys from Kirby's Adventure with High-Jump, and he could use that ability to jump high over the obstacles. I tried this game, and it is very, very challenging. I gave up trying to play it after a while. Next,Kirby appeared in Kirby's Block Ball. It was one of those pong type of games, but I'm not sure exactly what it was about, since I don't know anybody that has played it and talked about it to me. In 1997, Kirby Superstar was produced for the SNES next. It was a mini-game pak with more than a one player mode. You could play 2 player, with the second player being one of many different people. There were many sorts of mini-games, including Dynablade, Milky Way Wishes, Megaton Punch, and some ninja like timing game. Kirby Star Stacker was next. It was also a tetris style game. I haven't played this, and I don't know anybody who has. Heck, I didn't even know this exsisted until I got a list of all the kirby games. The Last game on the SNES for kirby (and I think for everything) was Kirby's Dreamland 3. I personally own this game, and I've beaten it 2 times already, but it still is very appealing. The concept is that Dark Matter has taken over Popstar (again) and that Kirby has to save it. (How boring can these stories be?) Kirby's 3 friends from Kirby's Dreamland 2 return, and 3 new friends, Pitch the Bird, Nago the Cat, and ChuChu the ? come to help Kirby make his way through. Although Kirby can only swallow 8 different abilities himself, he can ride on an animal to produce a different ability when he uses the attack. There are a total of 48 (you do the math, but I'll take Nintendo's word for it.) different combinations you can do, but not all of them are the greatest in the world. For instance, Rick and Parasol. (Don't make me tell you what it does.) The game after that was for the Nintendo 64. The game was Super Smash Bros, in which Kirby was a playable character. This is so far one of the best N64 games I have ever played! Kirby 64 is the other one. The problem (in my opinion) of many N64 games is the fact that too much emphasis is put on the graphics, and the gameplay isn't that great. Super Smash Bros. combines both great gameplay and pretty good graphics. The last game, and the only completely (almost) Kirby dedicated game on the N64 is Kirby 64!!! Produced in the year 2000, this was also a sidescroller game in 2 1/2-D. I'm not sure exactly what that means, but I think it means that the graphics are in 3-D and but you play only able to go in 4 directions. I think that this is much easier with the kirby games; if you add that extra 1/2 dimension, it makes it too confusing. It could also mean that the twists and turns are in 3-D, but I'm not sure, so don't ask me about it. Anyway, this game has 3 different mini-games, which are up to 4 players, but I think the adventure mode is better. It's where kirby helps a fairy named Ribbon try to gather up all of these crystal shards (hence the name Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards), and you can use the help of 3 other friends... Once you've defeated them, that is! Something new introduced is that kirby can take his powers out in a crystal form and throw them as attacks. He can also combine 2 enemies to make a new ability. This is crucial to see the real ending; you have to use the power combos to get crystal shards. If you ever get any information on new kirby games, you can email me with a bit of information on them, and I'll post them up.
