The most recent issue of Japan's Weekly Famitsu magazine has revealed more on Final Fantasy IX's still-untitled item system. As previously reported, characters gain abilities by equipping the weapons and armor. However, the abilities gained will vary depending on which character equips the given item -- for example, a particular accessory may bestow a standard "MP+20%" bonus on VIVI, while it may give the "Counter" abilitiy to Steiner. Rare items, of course, will give more powerful abilities; a hard-to-get sword may boost your strength by as much as 100%. And in a move sure to delight the hardcore contingent, characters now have four equipment slots: Weapon, Shield, Armor, and Accessory.
New Characters Revealed!
Here is the info that Square and ffonline.com have released concerning
the characterisics of the rest of the party members:
Garnet Tail Alexandoros - She is the princess of the Royal Family.
She is also the Princess that Steiner is assigned to protect.
Previously believed to be Eiko, this turns out to be untrue.
(*Note* She is the woman running with Zidane in the FFIX Coke Commercial)
Kuina Quen - Not much is known about this character still. What
we do know is that he loves to eat... A LOT!
Flyer Crescent - A very powerful knight and warrior. Flyer is also
very sensitive to the world around her. Hounded by a troubled past,
she will evidentely have to face her demons at some point during
the story.
Salamander Coral - A Warrior obsessed with his own strength and
power. He seems to be very egotistical, a trait which will factor into
his relations with the other characters.
Eiko Callor - Only 6 years old, Eiko is a brilliant young girl. Much
like Leon in Star Ocean 2, her intelligence commands the respect of
those around her.
