For those of you that are wondering... I haven't given up on making Game Genie codes, I'm just experimenting with different things. Original document written by: Tony Hedstrom t_hedstrom@yahoo.com How to hack the cars in "Need For Speed 3: Hot Persuit" (for the PC). Version 1.0 July 13, 2003 This doc explains how to make the cars in Need For Speed 3: Hot Persuit (for PC) much faster and handle better with just one simple hack. I've only tried this method on the full version of the game, but it should work on the trial version as well (if there is a trial version). All you need is a hex editor. You can get a free trial version of Hex Workshop from bpsoft.com. What this hack does is to make the game program think that the car weighs much less, therefore making it much faster, and better handling. As far as I can tell, this only applies to the car that you hacked, and not to any of the CPU cars (which is good). I'm going to use the Corvette as an example, but it should work on any of the other cars. NOTE: It's a good idea to make a backup copy of any file that you change, just in case. Go to the folder that NFS3 is installed in. Then go to: \GameData\CarModel\Corv. Inside the "Corv" folder, you will see a file named "Car.viv". Open this file with your hex editor. Go to this address: 16E. The number there should be 31. Change that 31 to a 30 instead. Save the change and you're all set. It's as easy as that! Now go drive the Corvette and blow everyone away! What you have just done is to change the weight of the Corvette from 1472 kg to 0472 kg. I tried making the car even lighter, but it didn't seem to work. I haven't tried this method on all of the cars yet. There is one very small side effect... since the program thinks the car is much lighter, it will get airborn easier going over some of the hills. There is a LOT more stuff you can hack in that file. If you're interested, just open up the "Car.viv" file with MS Word (or a similar program) and see all the cool stuff you can hack. It's not a good idea to make any changes with MS Word because it seems to corrupt the file. Use the hex editor to make any changes. I will explain ways to make the cars even faster in future updates.
