Match observations:
The first WWF PPV left no one disappointed. Gibson eliminated Flair
and Keirn to win the World Tag Titles for the Rock 'N' Roll Express.
LOD beat the Von Erich Brothers to get the shot at the Rock 'N Roll
Express for the Belts next month.
The WWF could not find a suitable hardcore wrestler to face Kevin
Sullivan, so they were going to just hand him the Hardcore Title.
However, Jumbo Tsuruta had requested that he face Sullivan. Tsuruta,
not nearly as experienced in hardcore matches as Sullivan, has been
wrestling in Hardcore matches. However, he stood no chance. Sullivan,
as expected, won the Hardcore Belt.
Billy Jack Haynes became the first WWF European Champ. He pinned the
Iron Sheik, who would later win the World Title, to win. Haynes got a
shot the next night on Raw and lost to Sheik. But he is indeed the
European Champ.
Ricky Steamboat won the IC Title controversially. After Steamboat came
out, Hot Rod did. Steamboat immediately caught him from with a
crucifix. The ref didn't know what to do, but he counted the pin on
Piper then give the IC Title to Ricky Steamboat! Sgt. Slaughter and
Rick Martel didn't like this at all. Next month, WWF Headquarters has
ruled, Slaughter, Martel, and Steamboat will go at it for the IC Title.
What a Royal Rumble! Here's how the advantage was passed on in the
match: Dusty Rhodes eliminated Steamboat, Roddy Piper threw out
Rhodes 9 minutes later, Hogan threw out Piper 13 minutes later, Sheik
threw out Hogan 30 minutes later, and Sheik threw out Sullivan 26
minutes later to win the World Title! So Rhodes held the advantage for
9 minutes, Piper for 13, Hogan for 30, and Sheik for 26. In my
opinion Hogan held the advantage for the longest, but couldn't win
the World Title- as that honor went to the Iron Sheik. The last man
Sheik eliminated, Kevin Sullivan, will go for the World Title next
month.
