On the Screen there is Box Art Picture of Biohazard 4 Umbrella Rising: NEWS:

April 25,2000

During the last few weeks I've been noticing the uprising in Biohazard 4 Rumors. Characters, and locations. If any of this is true at all, it seems Capcom has the same problems that happened during the making of Scream 2 with plot details being released as soon as they arrive.

On top of this I've been reciving a few e-mails on various questions to do with the game. Please know that I have no idea if this is true or not and that I do not know anything other than the fact the game will be coming sometime in the future, please do not email me about the 4th game at this time.

This paragraph is from the New Blood Website: Speaking of e-mails to do with it, I also recieved an e-mail from a guy who said he used to work for Capcom, and this was the box (image up above to the right) for the next game coming, "Biohazard 4: Umbrella Rising" the rumored title that has been circulating since August last year. Somehow I don't believe this is the real cover, but I thought I'd include it reguardless for the fact that even though it's most likely fake, it still looks rather cool.

This site will be updated every week at Friday or thursday. If you would like a News update on What is happening in the Resident Evil world then e-mail me at maki219@worldnet.att.net

Resident Evil
Japanese title: BioHazard
Platforms: PlayStation, Saturn, DOS/Windows, Game Boy Color (Canceled)
Original North American release: March 30, 1996

Background
It all began in 1996 when Resident Evil hit the new PlayStation console. At the time of the title's release, it was lauded as the best 3D adventure game ever. Impressively rendered backgrounds, unprecedented cinematic quality in graphics and sound, and the rare ability to provide very real tension and genuine scares far outweighed the game's flaws. Borrowing stock horror-movie elements such as flesh-hungry zombies and mutated creatures and featuring a story that changed depending on how the game was played, the game quickly became a favorite of players and lead to the creation of a new genre: survival horror. Resident Evil became a best seller and is now part of the PlayStation's Greatest Hits series, and every new installment of the game has been met with high anticipation, platinum sales, and no small amount of praise.

Pursued by dogs.

But was Resident Evil the true originator of the survival-horror genre? It's widely accepted that the PC game Alone in the Dark was a source of inspiration, but it's also possible that a Famicom (NES in the US) game called Sweet Home marked the beginning of the genre.

The birds.

Story
In a typical Midwestern US town called Raccoon City, strange reports come in from locals about missing people and unusual sightings of doglike monsters. After the remains of a mangled woman, bearing wounds that seem to have been inflicted by a wolf or grizzly bear, are fished out of the river, local police barricade the entrance to the mountain road, and Raccoon City's own STARS (Special Tactics and Rescue Squad) is informed of the situation.

screenshot
Don't worry, this one won't bite.

STARS unit Bravo Team is sent to investigate the situation, but a helicopter engine failure leads to all contact being lost with the group. Alpha Team is sent in to investigate the forest area, locate and rescue Bravo Team members, and bring the situation under control. However, when the team lands, it is suddenly attacked by a pack of grotesque dogs. Abandoned by their terrified helicopter pilot, the remaining members of Alpha Team are chased to a nearby mansion where the real nightmare begins.

Biggest Secret
Only the best survivors, those who are able to beat the game in less than three hours, and GameShark users will find themselves with unlimited use of the rocket launcher, a weapon that will kill any enemy in the game with a single shot. Every Resident Evil since has had some variation of this secret.

Note: Resident Evil for the Game Boy Color was originally delayed because Capcom felt more work needed to be done on the title. Then Capcom decided to pull the plug on the project entirely because Capcom of Japan felt that the portable platform can't do justice to the game. UK developer HotGen was working on Resident Evil for the Game Boy Color before it was canceled. Resident Evil 2 (Resident Evil 1.5)
Japanese title: BioHazard 2
Platform: PlayStation
Release: Never shipped

Background and Story
It might best serve the purpose of this feature to call this Resident Evil 1.5, as Capcom Research & Development came to call it. As the story goes, Resident Evil 2 (the original sequel) was about 70 percent complete when producer Shinji Mikami decided to scrap the entire project and start from scratch, because the game just wasn't up to par.

screenshot
Attack!

At this point, Mikami reportedly decided to throw some spices in the pot, so to speak, as the game was deemed too similar to the original Resident Evil. There are three notable features that never made it into the released version of Resident Evil 2: The ultra modern concrete and steel buildings that housed much of the RE2 action were considerably bland and repetitive looking. Also, in an effort to get more zombies on the screen, Capcom simplified the polygonal models, making the zombies less frightening. And lastly, a professional writer was brought in to review 1.5's story, which co-starred a "spunky female co-star…with attitude," and was understandably appalled.

screenshot
Down with the cops!

So the backgrounds were the first to change. RE2 held on to the urban setting; however, Raccoon City Police Headquarters became an aging, Western-style building, retaining the spooky atmosphere of RE1's sprawling mansion. Also, Capcom nixed motocross racer Elza Walker in favor of Claire Redfield, the younger sister of RE1's Chris Redfield and friend of rookie cop Leon Kennedy, RE2's second protagonist.

screenshot
Ok, I'm going to turn around and then you guys disappear.

One of RE 1.5's greatest innovations was an elaborate costume change system that altered your character's appearance as you played through the game. Leon and Elza (the original female lead) could find and wear such items as bulletproof vests, which offered improved protection in addition to extra carrying capacity. Leon's and Elza's outfits would also become tattered and blood-stained as they journeyed across Raccoon City. While the work on RE 1.5 came to a close, apparently some of the features made it in to the final RE 2 product.

The lady can shoot!

Capcom and Mikami decided to cancel the game and start completely over rather than bring out something the company wasn't happy with.

Resident Evil 2
Japanese title: BioHazard 2
Platforms: PlayStation, Game.com, Nintendo 64, Dreamcast
Original North American release: January 21, 1998

Background
Resident Evil 2 is considered by many to be the best game of the series. The sequel makes substantial improvements on the original in the graphics department, especially in the way of character models and improved animations, such as head tracking. You again have the choice of selecting one of two characters, each with its own disc, but the item and weapon differences and stories vary greatly depending on what order you play the discs. What you do in one game can have an effect (although a very limited one) on your next game, and there are two unlockable extra-tough scenarios and other secrets to be found.

Inside R.C.P.D.
Detailed files and photos flesh out the story nicely, making RE2 more detailed and involving than the first chapter. For many, RE2 is still the pinnacle of survival horror. Is this game the original Resident Evil 2? Find out the mystery behind Resident Evil 1.5 by checking out the links section.

Note: RE2 was rereleased with additions as Resident Evil 2: Dual Shock. Besides adding Dual Shock support to the title, this newer version of RE2 came with another feature, extreme battle mode, which is unlocked by beating scenario B in normal mode. After choosing Claire, Chris, Ada, or Leon, you must find four bombs and kill anything and everything that moves.

screenshot
Inside Umbrella's secret lab.

Note: The Nintendo 64 version featured the addition of EX Files to further explain the events that take place in the RE timeframe, some of which are taken from Resident Evil 3.

Story
Sometime in 1998....

Imagine a typical Midwestern US town built at the base of a vast forest. Business thrived here, especially with the advent of several new industries. Heck, you couldn't find a more peaceful wilderness getaway than Raccoon City. And then the trouble began, and it leads back to when the Umbrella Corporation arrived.

screenshot
Game Over.

Rumors began to spread, and the town was overcome with odd occurrences. Unidentifiable creatures appeared out of nowhere, and mysterious deaths happened at an alarming rate. Word got out about a severe accident at a mountain lab. No one knew what was happening to the quaint town.

The Raccoon City Police Department, in an effort to calm the growing fear among locals, recruited several new officers. Leon S. Kennedy is one of the promising recruits. As Leon prepares to join his new unit, he attempts, without luck, to contact the captain who hired him. Unfazed, he continues into Raccoon City to begin his new job.

screenshot
Claire in a rare moment of safety.

On the other side of town, a distraught Claire Redfield searches for her missing brother Chris. Claire begins her search in Raccoon City, the last known location of her brother nearly two months ago, only to learn about the "accident" in the forest. Is Chris still in Raccoon City?

Neither Leon nor Claire is aware of the overwhelming world of horror and despair they are about to enter.... Resident Evil 2

Biggest Secret
Resident Evil 2 is loaded with secrets, all of which can be found in the game guide. However, the biggest "secret" is one that turned out to be a complete hoax. An April Fools' joke from EGM led many to believe Akuma of Street Fighter fame could be unlocked by beating the game enough times with a good enough ranking. There are still believers to this day. Resident Evil 3: Nemesis
Japanese title: BioHazard 3: Last Escape
Platform: PlayStation
Original North American release: November 11, 1999

Background
Resident Evil 3 is a title that is viewed differently, meaning positively or negatively, by different fans. The first half of the game takes place before the events in RE2; the second half takes place after those events. While RE3 complicates the plot of the series tremendously and contains the occasional discrepancy (some would go as far as to call the game sloppy), it helps flesh out the overall story and provides you with a high-strung survival-horror experience all the while. Nemesis also raises the difficulty considerably on the normal setting and lowers it insanely in light mode. While many veteran players enjoyed the extra challenge and many newcomers to the series were relieved to be able to play light mode and not think twice about ammo conservation, some players felt that a middle difficulty setting would have been nice for everyone else. RE3 was also shorter than its predecessors, mainly due to its having one main character instead of two. This was somewhat balanced by the well-thought-out Mercenaries minigame.

RE3 represents the first major tweaks in the Resident Evil control scheme, not all of which carried over to the next Resident Evil, RE: Code Veronica. Some other changes include noticeable improvements in character models and new control tweaks, such as a 180-degree fast turn and a dodge feature (which ties in nicely with the increased difficulty), along with an improved auto-aim system.

Story
Jill Valentine is in Raccoon City when it all begins. As the G-Virus outbreak wreaktotal havoc on the city, she struggles to survive along with members of the UBCS - the Umbrella Biohazard Countermeasure Service. It's obvious to Jill that the Umbrella Corporation is behind everything, but what is the true purpose behind its research, and exactly how far will it go to contain its secret? A huge, seemingly unstoppable creature known as Nemesis plagues her constant struggle for survival. As mentioned earlier, the first part of the game takes place before the events in RE2, and the second part takes place after. So while Jill is fighting desperately for her life, so are Claire and Leon. Resident Evil 3: Nemesis

Biggest Secret
Like its predecessor, RE3 holds many secrets. The biggest but also the easiest to earn is the minigame Mercenaries: Operation Mad Jackal. You start off in downtown Raccoon City with a bomb implanted in your body. You must make it uptown in one piece, rescuing any survivors you can while killing enemies to earn more time. Depending on how well you perform, you will earn a cash reward that can be saved and used to buy infinite special weapons and ammo for use in the regular game. Watching an experienced survivor play through this mode is truly impressive and proves that RE's sometimes-awkward control scheme can truly be mastered given proper effort and a bit of skill. Resident Evil: Code Veronica
Japanese title: BioHazard: Code Veronica
Platform: Dreamcast
Original North American release: March 30, 2000

Background
Far from being simply another Resident Evil title on a new platform, Code Veronica has been hailed as the best Resident Evil to date and a must-have for Dreamcast owners. The game harnesses the power of the Dreamcast to produce the most believable and detailed graphics the series has seen to date, with the prerendered backgrounds being replaced by beautifully textured polygons that allow dynamic camera movement similar to Capcom's Dino Crisis. The game also features truly spectacular CG movies that are seamlessly blended with gameplay to create an amazing effect.
screenshot
Beating the clock.
The story and gameplay are also up to Resident Evil standards, and the controls have remained largely unchanged from Resident Evil 2, with the addition of a quick 180-degree turn. Once again, there are two main characters, although their adventures are not totally separate. One small but worthwhile detail is the game's use of the Dreamcast VMU to display your health.

screenshot
Only one of the many horrors that await.

Story
Three months after the events in Resident Evil 2, Claire continues to search for her missing brother, Chris. After being captured for trespassing in an Umbrella facility, our heroine is flown to a remote island and put into a prison cell. She is soon freed, and yet another struggle for survival begins.

Biggest Secret
Simply beating CV will unlock the hidden battle mode, where you play a timed mission with several unlockable characters (including an alternate version of Chris Redfield and a familiar face from the first Resident Evil). Code Veronica also sports a hidden first-person mode, which you earn by picking up the sniper rifle. And you get the rocket launcher by completing the game within a certain time limit. Resident Evil: Survivor
Japanese title: BioHazard: Gun Survivor
Platform: PlayStation
Original North American release: TBA

Background
Capcom finally announced that it was putting together a hybrid first-person/gun-shooting game set in the Resident Evil world, which had long been a debated rumor on the Internet. You take control of a man unable to remember his past and make your way through an unnamed town in search of the truth. Unfortunately, this noble experiment doesn't quite meet the standards set by previous Resident Evil games.
screenshot
Point Blank.
Awkward controls (and artificially stupid AI to compensate), a story that has little to tie it to the rest of the Resident Evil series, and substandard graphics and animation are some of the game's noticeable flaws. However, the game is playable, and the Resident Evil name alone was enough to put the game on the top of Japan's sales charts for a short while. Cautious gamers may want to take a look at our import review, but RE fans and anyone who owns a light gun and wants to play a different kind of shooting game might want to give the title a chance.

screenshot
Like shooting dogs in a barrel.

Story
Totally separate from the events that happen in Raccoon City, an outbreak has occurred elsewhere. The lone survivor of a helicopter crash finds himself amidst a living nightmare and has no choice but to try to find out anything and everything he can about his situation.

Japanese Title: BioHazard 0
Platform: Nintendo 64
Original North American release: TBA

Background
Not much is known about Resident Evil Zero thus far, but this is what we know. The game is being developed exclusively for the N64, a somewhat questionable move by Capcom, seen by many as an act of charity, considering how poorly the N64 has performed in Japan. As the game's title suggests, it takes place before the events in the original Resident Evil.

Please remain seated sir.

The only playable characters confirmed in this prequel so far are Rebecca Chambers, the medic from the doomed Bravo team sent to investigate the Raccoon Forest and surrounding areas and Billy Cohen, a former Navy Seal, who was accused of mass murder and managed to escape while being transported to prison. Players will be able to switch between Rebecca and Billy anytime during gameplay. The difficulty level of the game is rumored to be the toughest so far, and the game will do away with the RE staple of item boxes altogether. But you'll be able to exchange items between the two playable characters. In RE Zero, you'll pick up an item and leave behind another from your inventory if you can't carry all of them. All shots seen so far take place on a train, and the setting of the game otherwise remains unknown. In the meantime, be sure to watch the videogames.com headlines for new details on this title.
