Bessie Mae's Dream originally formed in Charlotte, North Carolina and was founded in 1996 by Jerry Shaver, Marcus Cheek and Danny Thomas, who previously played drums for 13th Floor Elevators. After playing many gigs in their hometown of Chapel Hill, New Orleans, and Myrtle Beach they released their first album entitled Time To Burn in 1998.

Even though Time To Burn impressed Deadheads Dick Latvala and David Gans, several members, including Danny Thomas, left the band. After a breif hiatus, the group reformed in late 1998, with the addition of Jason on the keyboards and Kevin White on the Drums.
Currently, Bessie Mae's Dream is working on their summer 2000 tour. The schedule includes dates at Jack Straws in Charlotte, The Brewery in Raleigh, and Be Here Now in Asheville.
The bands new self-titled album, recorded at Reflections studio in Charlotte, 1999, is doing great. 11 songs including a few tracks with special guest Tom Constanten from The Greatful Dead.
