Brian Bell: Funkilicious Funkmaster of the Funky Funkness

Brian was born December 9, 1968, making him the oldest Weezer member. He's a good old country boy from Knoxville, Tennessee. He learned to play guitar on a banjo that his grandmother won at a Bingo game which is so incredibly cool. Before Weezer, Brian was playing bass in a Los Angeles band called Carnival Art, which released a few songs, on an EP called "Welcome to Vas Leglas" or something similar. Brian replaced Jason Cropper prior to the recording of the blue album. He contributes lovely backing vocals and guitars on both albums. Brian is a quiet guy, not as shy as Rivers, but he doesn't talk much in interviews or goof around as much at shows. He's a very nice guy with excellent fashion sense and a lot of sass.

When he's not involved with Weezer (which is a good portion of the time these days), Brian works on his side project, the Space Twins. He's released quite a few singles on vinyl and plays shows sporadically in Los Angeles. Currently, he is working on the Space Twins first full length CD, which will be self titled and released on Duck Butter Records sometime in the near future.

Brian is a vegan and his favorite animal is the Wooly Mammoth. He shaved his eyebrows off during a tour and wore the traditional Weezer thick glasses to hide them for a brief period. His dad is very involved with Weezer and attends many of their shows and is an all around cool guy. And for some odd reason, Pat often refers to him as Bre Van Bri.

Funk?

What's all this talk of funk you ask? Brain Bell is one funkay dude! Well if you've ever seen Brian perform you know exacly what I'm talking about. That guy just loves what he does. I hope I love what I do as much as Brian Bell loves what he does. He's always bouncy and into whatever it is he's playing and it's neato to watch someone so into what they do. I'm reminded of this one late night performance of Island in the Sun. At the very end towards the "No no" part Brian takes his pinky and waves it through the air, this is just a small example of what I'm talking about. Bell is awesome, from his clothing, to his rockstar skinnniness, this guy rules.
