You grab the key, knowing instinctively that old houses have ways of getting you caught in strange places. You look around the hall, not really caring what the key was for. It was a solid idea to consider the key being for a safe, somewhere in the house.

As you turn right and then left, you see a machine off to the corner of a room. The key issue is irritating and the idea of taking thirty seconds to check things out seems possible.

You take a step into the room and look at all the locks that are incorporated into the cabinets and machines. Your jaw flies open at the sight of a little box on the laundry machine. It's not the coin box because it's at the bottom and it's just slightly out of place . . .
